This was a very special day out for my cousin and she had specifically picked this place out for it. We arrived to a fairly poor greeting and the place was quiet to begin with. We had to ask to order drinks and we proceeded to order our mains at the same timev as we did not v want to b wait any longer. We found the other tables filling up around us. After a long wait, we were one of the only table without our mains. One of the team casually walked by and asked how we were and what were we having for our dishes. A sweet thing to do but the same time we were the only table she spoke with and still no mains. Call me cynical but i think they had forgotten/ lost our order and had then checked. We were ok chatting away but still waiting, i asked the staff how long our food would be, he went to find out. Then 2 cocktails arrived courtesy of them and an apology for the delay. We thanked them but neither of us were able to drink them, i was driving.

Our food came eventually and it really did not disappoint. It was amazing. The lunch were served with the best sides i have had in a very long time. We ordered the cauliflower cheese which was just oozing with flavour. So glad that the meal was top notch. Special thank you to the chef and their kitchen team. Everything was exceptional.

By the time we had finished our food, we ordered a drink. So here is where it fell down again. 20 minutes from ordering it had still not arrived. I went to use the facilities and on my way back asked if the drink had been served. The staff looked at me and then proceeded to say it was not on the tab. I repeated the order and it was poured in front of me. I settled the bill and was asked if i would like the drink taking to the table which was waiting on the side of the desk. I was taken aback by this question. Finally we got the drink but it was not enjoyed as it should have been.

Having worked and observed many customer facing service roles and also having friends in the hospitality trade i know how difficult it can be to train, hire and have the right members of the team. So it's not anything that i do not empathise with or do not understand.

But please keep your communication clear and let us know what is going on.

For my cousin and I, our time together was really special and precious and I do not know if we will ever get to do this again.

Noone likes to give criticism so i hope you understand and take this in the way it is intended.

I am happy to talk this through if it will mean noone else has the...

Shocking experience.

To give some context, we had eaten at the Hawthorn the previous night and had a fantastic meal. Having been in Haworth for a week, it was one of the best places which we had eaten. So, for our last night on holiday, we decided to finish on a high note.

We sat on the terrace and I ordered a steak, medium. When the steak came it was well done. This shouldn't be an issue, it happens. Sometimes food gets over cooked. Again, for us it wasn't a problem.

However, sitting outside, we were close to the window which leads onto the kitchen. Let's just say the kitchen staff weren't to happy about getting food sent back. Again, I am not fussy, but if I order something a certain way, and it's really far off the mark, then I believe it's a valid opinion.

A new steak arrived. Which, after hearing what they were saying about us from the kitchen, I just didn't bother with it. Experience ruined, my partner felt very uncomfortable about the situation, as this was her birthday. I told the waitress, who was very nice, about the issue. She knocked off the drinks, but that was it. Not like that matters, when you have been treated in such a poor manner

This it the first review I have left about a restaurant. A very sour ending, to a...

Well, what can I say ! What an absolute gem of a place ! ✨️ No wonder you have to book in advance. The food here is the best I have ever had. We went for Sunday lunch, and I can honestly say it the best Sunday dinner I have ever had dining out. The roast beef was so tasty and cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes were so crispy and fluffy on the inside, all seasonal vegetables were also very tasty, and the separate little skillet pan of cauliflower cheese was to die for ! All in all, a beautifully presented and very tasty Sunday lunch, the best I have ever tasted. I didn't sample a pudding as I couldn't fit anything else in ! But if the puddings are anything like the Sundays roasts they will be amazing too.

The waiting list to dine here is long, but that is a testimont to the excellent quality of their food.

The only gripe I have is the wobbly tables ! 😊 They need screwing tighter underneath.

All in all, it's a fantastic place, brilliant service, great price and the food, yes you've guessed is to die for ! Cannot wait...

It’s hard to rate places in current circumstances. The Hawthorn is as close to “old normal” as anywhere I’ve eaten post Covid. Credit to the management for that. The only negative I have is that the starter choice was uninspiring, however, the chicken terrine we both chose was top notch. With the restaurant having a Josper grill. I felt obliged to have a steak. It was grilled rare, as requested, to perfection, as was my partners “Barnsley” lamb chop. I must admit, growing up near Doncaster, I always thought a Barnsley chop was a euphemism for a head butt, I’m still not convinced... I’m not a dessert person & normally go for the cheese board but I was tempted by the lemon & vanilla tart with raspberry & sorrel sorbet. It was superb & knocked my socks off!
