I booked at table with my elderly, disabled parents on night of 20/08/23. My father is 84 and registered disabled. When we arrived, to our shock and dismay, the waitress ushered us up a 10-12 inch high step (see photos below). Due to his disability and age my father was unable to negotiate this. He has serious issues with his leg arteries. The drop down from this step could have proved fatal for him. Having informed the restaurant that my parents were disabled, we pointed out to them that my father was unable to climb up and down this step. The staff were completely unmoved. We asked if they had a ramp, to which they replied they did not have one. A male waiter was very unsympathetic and downright rude and arrogant. We were about to walk out when a female waitress ushered us to a table which was on one level. She had initiative. Her male colleague had none, coming across as thick as two planks.
There is no ground level toilet.
This restaurant's staff seemed completely oblivious to the law on making services accessible to disabled people. The Equality Act 2010 defines Disability and Age as Protected Characteristics. It states businesses providing services to the public are legally required to make adaptations for disabled people. This restaurant is failing to comply with this legal requirement. Why do they think they can flout Equality law? We are seriously considering reporting this lack of adaptations to the Local Authority and HSE in the interest of disabled people.
The standard of service thereafter was absolutely rubbish. The staff lack friendliness, courtesy and are arrogant.
The only good thing to say is that the food was good. Everything else about this restaurant was rotten. We will not be dining here again due to this bad experience.
I would advise disabled people to avoid this resturant as, to it shame, it does not comply with the law on making adaptations for...
Read moreWe've always enjoyed a night at the Eastern Oriental. But last night was a joke. We waited 45 minutes for our starter, and when it arrived, it was not what we had ordered. There were 4 of us having the £23.90 meal. And 1 having an ala carte menu. So we ordered again. So we waited again for another 30 minutes. Only one of the 2 ordervers ordered ever arrived even after we explained that we had ordered 2 of them. the ordervers serve 2 people. There were 4 people having the meal deal. We were with our elderly relatives who are in their nities, so this became tiresome. As they were ready for their meal. Then our daughters' main arrived. Who was not having the meal deal. So she shared her pancakes with her grandparents, as they were hungry and ready to eat. The staff kept walking past, and no one took notice when she tried to get their attention. Eventually, their meal arrived, but it was still another 30 minutes again. We had to wave 5 times to the staff to order some more drinks and food. In the end, we gave up. no one came to clear our plates away. We had to ask for this to be done. There was no dessert menu offered to us either. The waiting service was a complete shambles. When it came to the bill. I asked for the service charge to be removed. The waitress just started to say sarcasticly we'll we should charge your daughter £23.90 because l saw her eating a rib. She never ordered the ribs. Well, her grandparent gave her a rib as she had given him a pancake because he was hungry whilst they were waiting for their food so long. And if she saw that, then why did we have to ask for our order to be corrected on three occasions, And ask for drinks that never arrived. Also, for our table to be cleaned away. She was completely rude. And disrespectful. We all left...
Read moreWhat a huge disappointment. Used to be called the Imperial Peking. Booked a meal for two... 6:30. As we arrived they were not sure about our table so we ended up at a small table for two in an awkward position. Next we were asked if we could turn our table around... no because one of us would be sitting awkwardly - so we were given a second table - this time under a flickering light. Third time lucky another table but this time right next to Mr & Mrs Essex and Friend who were almost shouting across their table so that my wife and I could not easily talk to each other. The place was about 50% full. We could clearly hear other conversations 40 feet from us from another group. Why are some people so loud? Meal: Ordered and the wrong dish arrived to start with... that got sent back to the kitchen. Two small glasses of fizzy water £5 for the two (probably less than a pint so order the bottle). Mixed starters for two £15... hardly enough for one person. Food was nothing too special and the portions were OK but nothing to shout about (except that some customers clearly could not talk quietly). Service was slow, not terribly helpful and we found it hard to hear the person serving us. Mr & Mrs Essex and Friend left and drove away in an open topped sports car... obvious really... convertibles make people deaf (or insensitive). Toilets are upstairs and we did not see any downstairs unless a disabled toilet is hidden somewhere. Hint... play some soft soothing music that sets the tone / atmosphere for the restaurant. Did not stay for dessert or coffee as we could not get out quick enough. Needless to say - we will not...
