Ordered here on a Saturday afternoon for collection. Partner has been before and said I must try the best Mexican in Bristol. My experience was a little more mixed than that.
When I called to order 2 pork burritos, the waitress said they ran out. Fair enough,I thought, Saturday afternoon, busy place, so I asked what they had left. The answer came at a quite rough tone that took me back to my secondary school years when the teacher was asking about the homework: "I'm very busy now have you not looked at the menu online?" "Sorry", I said (ha, you can't catch me teacher, I DID my homework!), "I did but thought you ran out of more things. Anyway, two chicken burritos please."
On a positive note it did get ready on time despite the busy Saturday, they even called to let me know it's ready.
The quality of the food though must have been influenced by the timing... The burritos were extremely oily, about a cupful of oil dripped out of them while we were eating it. There was a lot of flavour but it felt like they accidentally tipped the entire contents of some of the herb jars into the mixture. No harmony of flavours, just a greasy overly coriandered, cinnamoned, anised or "I can't quite identify what brown-beige spice"-ed kick in the face.
Also, one of the burritos was definitely chicken. The other, well, the first questionmark was: "Why is this one purple?" - but oh well, looks don't matter when it comes to burritos. But that chicken weirdly resembled to sweet potato / courgette / aubergine with lots of other vegetables stewed to oblivion. In fewer words: they messed up our order. Which I actually don't mind as the calorie content of the chicken burrito would have been enough for 10 people (98% of it coming from the oil inside) so 3 of us shared that and had the veggie one on the side.
I can just imagine the poor -probably vegetarian- person's face when they bit into the chicken burrito that was supposed to come home with us.
I probably will give it another go on a weekday, because 1000 good reviews can't be wrong, but on this occasion, sorry guys, you messed it up.
My advice (if you read your reviews): when you're this overwhelmed, just stop taking orders on the phone, or take them with a longer preparation time: I wouldn't worry having to wait an hour for collecting my burrito as long as...

On speaking to one of the lovely staff I was unsurprised to discover it was fully booked inside, but the small amount of outdoors seating is first come first serve and I was given permission to sneak 4 around a table if one came free.
Would you believe it, as I walked out the only 4 person sized outside table came free and we swept in faster than a toupee in a tornado.
Feeling very pleased with ourselves we settled in with a couple of delicious cocktails whilst waiting for our two other friends. The Ginny Melon was a refreshing icy treat that tasted like refreshers. I'm not sure why the Paloma Faith was so named, unless she's got a reputation for being delicious, but this spicy treat definitely didn't leave me Stone Cold Sober.
Along with the drinks we shared some nachos and quesadillas. If you like it hot like I do, the pineapple and habanero sauce is a steamy little number that balances heat and flavour beautifully. The nachos were by far the best nachos I've had in recent years, truly spectacular taste. Just make sure you have napkins to hand because you're going to make a mess eating either of these treats.
Following these were a drunk chicks burrito and a hole molé tacos. Both absolutely delicious, the flavours were brilliant. My only regret was not asking for some more pineapple and habanero sauce on the side.
A jug of really tasty margarita with our friends sealed our meal. They had thoroughly enjoyed their elote and cevixe, enough to not share them with us so I guess that speaks for itself!
With that we paid our entirely reasonably priced bill, and waddled off to enjoy some live music, replete and ready...
Read moreWe came here last night as a group of 6. The atmosphere at Chido Wey is vibrant and the decoration really fun and aesthetic.
For drinks, we ordered the pitcher of sangria and the pitcher of margarita. The barman who made our drinks was so friendly and kind, even suggesting we have separate glasses for each drink as the margarita glasses came with salted rims!
For food, we ordered various mains. The carne-val tacos were the juiciest tacos I have ever had! A very messy main but worth it (albeit mine were a little cold), the flavour was yummy! The elote (Mexican street corn) is also delicious, but again, was a little cold!
In terms of service, some other people have mentioned about the waitresses seeming a bit 'off'. Our party agreed that the waitresses did have a cavalier attitude towards us. The one lady with the micro-fringe was unable to identify what food was ours and kept getting the name wrong. As one of our party opted for a GF option, this was a little worrying (luckily the GF was a preference and not coeliac).
When it came to the bill, they place a 12.5% service charge. We asked for this to be removed as a result of the mid service and no check back during our meal to see how everything was.
Would we go back? Probably not. I think it's good to experience this restaurant but sometimes when places are over-hyped, they're not...
