The "as seen on TV" Glen's Kitchen #1 is every bit the hidden jem the stories make it out to be. Its a short walk from the city centre and the thing that confronts you immediately is a large recipe for ackee and saltfish painted on the wall outside. Inside the wonderful staff are very helpful and even offered tips on seasoning and other things. I had a medium sized vegetable curry with rice and peas, this is a generous sized medium. The idea that just a few vegetables and some rice would be a wow meal is a hard sell but this is a wow meal, I finished mine and almost bought a second one straight away. Rice and peas was nice but the curry is the star and its subtle flavours gently tickle your taste buds while the whole meal almost wraps you in a warm blanket of comfort food. Glen's Kitchen #1 is number one, no doubts.

We spent my 50th birthday last weekend in Bristol (our first time visiting there) after seeing "Remarkable Places To Eat" on the BBC where Michel Roux Jr took Fred Sirieix to the city to show him some foodie gems. So we paid a visit to Glen's Kitchen, where I had the jerk chicken in the photo below - it tasted even better than it looks, and it looked amazing. £8.50 for a large portion - and it IS large - and it is Caribbean food heaven. And they were genuinely & humbly chuffed that we'd come from Liverpool to go & eat there. I can't recommend it enough - it's well worth seeking out St Paul's Community Centre to go there & sample their food, and I guarantee you will not go away disappointed.

Delicious freshly cooked Caribbean food to take away or there's outdoor seating. Very friendly staff including the legendary Glen! Food was fantastic, variety of Caribbean and takes on British classics, along with standard excellent quality classics. Highly recommended, and thanks for allowing me the interview with Glen!

The is, in my opinion, the best Caribbean food lunch cafe in Bristol. Glen the chef/owner is there every day cooking up fresh and very delicious food! His curry goat is the best I’ve had in a Bristol restaurant. He also does a vegetarian dish. The cafe decor is homely and clean, the atmosphere relaxed and peaceful, with a warm ‘community’ feel. There’s always great music (Glen’s own playlist) softly playing. The cost is very reasonable! Great value for the money! He does a ‘take away’ service as well. I highly...
