As an Asian food enthusiast, stumbling upon Mangosteen on North Street was a true delight. The food truly is top class, and it quickly became one of my favourite dining place. Their Far East style dishes were nothing short of awesome – authentic, flavourful, and perfectly prepared. I was thoroughly enjoying every bite and the vibrant atmosphere. However, our otherwise perfect evening took an unfortunate turn when a dog was allowed into the restaurant. Given the tight confines of the dining area, its presence felt unnecessary and, frankly, unhygienic. From where we were seated, the distinct smell of the dog was noticeable, which significantly detracted from the pleasure of our meal. For many, dining out is about enjoying a clean, pleasant environment, and the presence of a dog, especially in a small space, simply kills that experience. I truly don't understand why some dog owners believe it's acceptable to bring their pets into restaurants, spoiling the enjoyment for other patrons. It feels like a selfish act, as I would never dream of taking my own dog into a dining establishment. While the food at Mangosteen is exceptional, the decision to permit dogs seriously compromised our overall experience. It's a shame that such a fantastic culinary offering was overshadowed...
Read moreFantastic little restaurant on North Street. Visited early (5pm) last Saturday evening and it was already booking only with walk ups being turned away. Menu states food will be served quickly unless you ask for it to come out as starters and main. Super friendly staff talked through the options. Went for nasi goreng, and it was delicious. Rice very flavourful and cooked perfectly but be aware it's pretty spicy, which I loved. Also ordered the chicken satay and chilli squid. Chicken was moist and well flavoured, peanut sauce was lovely. The crispy squid was really really good and was covered in a nice spring onion salsa and came with a sweet chilli dip. My friends both had the massoman curry and chilli beef, all beautifully presented. Washed down with a non alcoholic Asahi lager. Decent range of drinks and cocktails looked great. Food arrived as promised really quickly and we were done and out the door in 35 minutes for a few beers along North St. My three courses and a beer were £28, great value for super tasty food. Definitely going back. Tables in there are pretty packed in so it's cosy, but don't let put you off the food and...
Read moreWhat a wonderful evening! My partner and I enjoyed a late-booking meal on Saturday, March 8th, and were absolutely blown away. Despite our 9 PM reservation, the venue was still bustling with guests, and the team remained upbeat and professional.
Expect exceptional cocktails, some served in playful, animal-shaped tiki glassware, outstanding service from attentive, friendly staff, a beautifully decorated and inviting venue, and, most importantly for us, a wide variety of incredibly delicious dishes to choose from.
We shared the veggie spring rolls, Thai grilled pork, golden prawn bags, butter chilli prawns, Thai duck red curry, and Pad Thai noodles with chicken. While the Thai grilled pork and Thai duck red curry were our favorites, every dish was expertly prepared and did not disappoint.
Although the restaurant doesn’t offer desserts, there are plenty of dessert-style cocktails to fill the gap. We opted for a Phuket Mule, which hit the spot!
We’ll absolutely be visiting again—10 out of 10...
