I am being way too generous giving this place 1 star and this was all thanks to the attitude of the staff who took my order. I had been to many asian restaurants and I noticed that most asian waiters would not speak cantonese and it has been my practice to order in English to eschew any language barriers. I read out the number of the dishes I would like to order. “Hello, I would like to order. Can i get a 219…” “三燒飯 係咪?” the waiter answered.(The waiter repeated and confirmed my order in Cantonese (my first language)). I then proceeded ordering in Cantonese knowing that he could speak/understand Cantonese. Out of nowhere, he threw a tantrum and yelled,” 如果你英文講得咁好 我咪用英文幫你落單囉‘ (he said,”If you are so articulate in English, I could take your order in English”) as if he was so mad and offended that I ordered in English at the first place. My friend and I were flabbergasted and shocked. His words and his tone were extremely hostile and aggressive and there was no way that it was just a joke (there is not any smile on his face but a grumpy look) As someone who had never been to this restaurant, I had no idea who worked there and what language they spoke. I was brought to a table by an English-speaking staff and so my first instinct was to order in English. Never have I imagined being shamed and insulted for such a matter. This just comes to show that the staff of the restaurant have minimal respect to their customers. My friend and I were so bothered by the words he had said to us and we could mot really have the peace of mind to enjoy the meal. To the staff who treated us poorly, shame on you. I hope you understand that the words you say to your customers will directly affect their moods and as the service provider, there is so much you could have done to escalate the situation. Yet, you chose to un-necessarily exacerbate it and turned it into such an awkward and uncomfortable scenario. The staff never apologised, and ironically I was the one who could not stop apologising as if I am in the wrong. The attitudes of the staff there were extremely hostile and I would never recommend anyone eating here solely based on how you are going...

Went to this restaurant three times the first time was to make a reservation and was met with an old gentleman on the bar who was hard to communicate with and was very rude in tone while taking reservation i was with my girlfriend so did not respond anything to it but was told i would get the table i wanted by the glass facing outside and was told it would be fine and would get it but when we came the next day the table we requested was taken along the same line and were seated in an uncomfortable table of four which was too big to converse in and enjoy the food so eventually had to sit adjacent rather than opposite and found the same gentleman in the bar and was not very easy to talk with the lady who serves us was nice but no checkbacks were done we were not once checked upon to ask about the food or if we wanted anything but to clear the plates before we finished we had reached at 10.50pm and the restaurant closes at 12 but we werent asked for any dessert or drinks refill or the chilli oil refills neither of us were told about last orders being at 11.30 so we assumed we would be told for desserts eventually a different lady came to our table and handed the takeaway boxes to us to pack uo and leave . Very unprofessional but my girlfriend loved the egg rice and she wanted to have the chopsticks but were refused. One of the nicest Chinese restaurants ive been to ruined by terrible service and closing time atrosities. Had been waiting till august 25 for them to reopen so we could check it out after hearing good comments on the food but walking into a disastrous and disappointing service. Went for the third time to get the egg rice my girlfriend loved and had a chat to the manager nice guy gave us a lot of recommendations on the food but me returning to the restaurant after having such an awful experience are slim to none on a dining maybe take aways so i dont have to deal with the rude old gentleman in the bar. Thanks for giving us a very amazing dining experience on our...

My wife and I recently visited this restaurant with high hopes for a relaxing meal. Unfortunately, what unfolded was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences we've ever had. After placing our food order, we politely asked the staff if we could adjust our chairs slightly — just enough to sit side by side so we could comfortably share our meal, something we often do. To our surprise, one staff member responded with unnecessary rudeness, insisting that we couldn’t move the chairs due to “blocking the way,” even though the space was already narrow and barely passable regardless of our seating arrangement. Trying to find a solution, we asked if we could move to another table. The restaurant was nearly empty, with plenty of available seating, but she refused again, saying we had to wait until the nearby diners finished their meal — a reason that made little sense given the circumstances. Another staff member seemed more understanding, but this particular lady continued to raise her voice and repeat the same refusal, making the situation increasingly uncomfortable. Eventually, we had no choice but to cancel our order. We even asked beforehand if cancellation would incur a charge, just to be sure. The entire experience left us feeling deeply hurt and disrespected, especially as we were hungry and had approached the situation with politeness and patience. We understand that restaurants have policies, but basic courtesy and flexibility — especially when the place isn’t busy — go a long way in making guests feel welcome. Sadly, this was not...

We visited the restaurant recently after it’s reopened and relocated, and the experience was UNPLEASANT. We did not book a table and understood that we might not get one. We got in at 5:35pm and asked for a table, they asked if we had booked and we said no. Then without saying anything to us, they just left us waiting. 10 minutes later we were told we could get a table only if we could finish by 7pm, we were fine with that, so we sat down and started looking at the menu. We were trying to look through the menu as quickly as we could, as there were quite a lot to choose from. While we were still looking, a man who worked there came over to our table and asked if we were ready to order, but we weren’t quite ready. Then this man said to us “you need to be quick we need the table back”, the way he said it was RUDE, no please or thank yous. We finished our food very quickly and was out of the door by 6:35pm. We had visited the restaurant when it was at King Square and then relocated by the coach station and now at its new location. It does not matter whether a restaurant is still in its “soft opening” period, some of the staff are not friendly when the customers have done nothing wrong. This seems like a regular thing at May Flower reading other reviews! After this experience, we will not be going back again. At least there was one helpful waitress who helped us cancel the BURNT plate of vegetables.

We had been eagerly waiting for Mayflower to reopen its doors, and we were so excited to finally visit again! We booked a table for five on a Sunday night, and while there was a short wait of about 12 minutes before we were seated, it was understandable given how busy the restaurant was. Not only was the dining area full, but there was also a steady stream of takeaway customers. It was great to see such a bustling atmosphere, especially after the restaurant had been closed for so long. Despite the high demand, our food arrived surprisingly quickly, and as always, it was absolutely delicious! We left feeling completely satisfied and full. A few small touches could elevate the experience to a perfect 10/10: A bit more sauce with the duck would be great. It would be helpful if the rice or sides were served alongside the mains, as at one point, we had a couple of main dishes but no rice to pair them with. For dessert, the fried bananas would be even better with a scoop of ice cream. Given that our bill totaled £180 for five people, a complimentary dessert would have been a lovely gesture. Many restaurants offer this for larger bills, and it always leaves a great impression. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and are so happy to see Mayflower thriving again. We’ll definitely be back soon!

The restaurant gives you the Cantonese feelings with decorations and music, however the space between tables is narrow, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. For the food, the restaurant provides with a widr range of menu, from rice to congee, from noodles to soup, with chicken, duck, beef, pork, seafood. Today I tried Chilli Beef, Black Bean Sauce Chicken and Claypot Rice. The taste and texture for each are decent, but I think the portion is too small given the price. Lastly, what I want to say is the attitude of the staff. I think all the waiter/waitress are very nice, except one, whom I think is the manager/owner. He was very unfriendly and appeared to be annoyed at us when we were asking for the bill. Above all, still a great place for those who is craving for Chinese food.
