Tompsons Fish & Chip Restaurant & Takeaway — Restaurant in Bury

Very disappointed.Have eaten at Tompsons for thirty years since they were on Rochdale Road but then Ibegan online delivery.A bit more expensive than other chippys but worth it.This last year though,I've given them chance after chance but that's me finished with them.Prices have escalated to a ridiculous level-I'm well aware the cost of fish has soared but other shops,while increasing their prices,haven't done so by the ridiculous amounts of Tomsons.Fish and chips for two cost three pounds more than the previous week,another two pounds the following and two weeks later another three pounds.Unaffordable.Bad enough the cost but the quality is now abysmal.Haddock portions are minute,lots of soggy batter with literally a couple of mouthfuls of hard grey fish.Super greasy chips are just scraps with hardly any potato and half the amount I used to recieve.So much grease the bottom of the box is always soaked through.Little things,not vitally important such as the requested salt and vinegar not being added,are also very annoying. Heard good reports about this eaterie and wasn't disappointed at all. Having had fish n chips in loads of establishments, I'd rate Thompsons a solid 9/10. The fish was superb and I liked the way the currie was served in a silver gravy boat which was a nice touch. The chips were nice but I prefer mine crisper and not like your usual take away chippy type! I ordered mushy peas but I received the processed type and just a tad hard. That said, it was a fabulous first time experience. The staff were so friendly and very attentive and couldn't do enough for you. I have visited twice in the last couple of months the shop is modern, clean with eat in or take away facilities. Friendly helpful staff business is brisk . I find it to be on the pricey side if the meal is excellent then this can be mitigated & accepted by the higher price . The fish is quite good the chips were not crisp & did not not taste as good as others i have eaten . I have had a meal with a meat & potato pie not very good ,dry bland filling and pastry . It would be a big improvement to offer a local made pie with quality ingredients this would go a long way to improving food standards . I have tried to be constructive with my comments as i would like the business to succeed...
