I love this place! I've waited 4 years for a return visit here from Australia, and top of my list of things to do was have lunch at Merrie England! This time I had the eggs, sausage, tomatoe, with everything on a tea cake, and it was the duck's guts. The ladies working are gorgeous and the atmosphere is happy. I will definitely visit again before I leave in the next 2 weeks.

We have been very disappointed during the last few weeks at the Merrie England.

A group of women approximately 7 in total have been coming to the Merrie England in Halifax for coffee, toast and a general chat. Over the years we have continued to Contribute to the profitability of the business.

On Thursday 25th September a few of us had a general discussion with the staff. During our previous visits and again on this occasion we complained that the door stick’s open every time someone enters and leaves. It's particularly uncomfortable and drafty when cold and the 7 of us take it in turns to get up and keep the door shut!

The staff indicated they had reported the "sticking door" to the Management but unfortunately they "weren't bothered about it"! We were also informed by the staff that the Management had no intention of putting on any heating until November!

As paying customers we expect to be comfortable when having coffee and snacks! As pensioners, which most of the group are, we can stay at home and be cold!

During recent visits we have noticed :

Tables not wiped. Floor not vacuumed. Glass on the stairwell not cleaned. Toilets not cleaned. No soap in the toilets.

Then there's the "loyalty card" for a "free cup of coffee"! It isn't free because you have to pay 40 pence towards the free cup of coffee! Maybe Trading Standards would be very interested in this misinformation.

They also appear to be short staffed because a sign went up on the door to say "they were closing at 2.30 pm due to staff shortages. I'm not surprised they are short staffed if the Management, who promised so much when they took over from the previous owner, do not seem to look after their staff nor...

Went in here this morning ordered a latte and cappuccino plus a beef tea cake ( which was fine) and also a cheese, onion and tomato toastie.(This was disgusting and looked more like scrambled egg) most if it was left on the plate. Should have complained as it definitely wasn't worth the money and uneatable. Just wanted to get out of there asap. Will not be visiting...
