Pretty miserable To be Honest.
Sat down quickly, waiter first approached us after 2 minutes which was great. Drinks arrived quickly. It was a tall gent, with arm tattoos and very very short blonde hair. After waiting 10 minutes, 1 starter arrived of the dumplings but when we queried the Korean cauliflower to the server who brought our food over (different from our original server) he just replied with "im not sure" and walked away. We then patiently waited and after 5 minutes nothing was said to us. Eventually a lady server explained what had happened and it was just a normal mixup, which happens fine. But nobody told us??
Eventually the second one arrives and a female manager offered an extra dumplings for free which was nice!
When the mains arrived, my burger had no pickles in as requested but the fries were also not the rosemary fries as advertised. My partner has the halloumi shwarma which shes had several times before but this time the break was really really hard. We felt awkward complaining about it because we had already had a few issues.
Now we had both finished and put napkins on top of our plates and this was around 7:05. Despite having a table right next to their till (table 60) we were ignored for 11 minutes. Our original server had not done a single check back, no second drinks were offered, he just continued to clear tables and wipe glasses and even looked down at us as he walked past us from the back.
It was actually a different female server who eventually noticed and cleared our plates in which I then showed her the bread. She took off 3.60 to cater for the poor bread quality which was fine, I didn't even ask for it to be taken off. We then asked to take the service charge off as we felt it was just. A normaly table turnover for a table of 2 is 1hr and 15 minutes were were there for 1hr and 40.
We never got any kind of check back and we felt like we were ignored. As soon as I asked for the service charge to be taken off it was like a different atmosphere everything was short and blunt. As a manager of a restaurant in Cambridge and 5 minutes away from this branch, I was appaled at this level of service and if it happened in my restaurant, letter of concerns would be given out. Each time we come here we always have an issue. Which is a shame as me and my fiancée had our first date here and so it's always been a comfort spot of ours but this meal was the nail in the coffin for us. Im sure we'll go back to bills just not this one.
The female manager was lovely! And a female waitress with blonde hair and black addidas shoes, they had a great energy about them.
But our original server was no where to be seen the whole...

My recent visit to Bill’s with the family for dinner was… let’s say, a memorable one — though perhaps not in the way they'd hope.
Now, I’m not usually one to complain — I like my food warm, my service friendly, and my experiences unremarkable in the best kind of way. But on this occasion, even with an almost empty restaurant, everything took a surprisingly long time. We placed our order and settled in for what turned out to be quite the wait (around 40 minutes.
I’d ordered the steak (a heartful £25.50’s worth), medium rare. The kids had burgers. When the food finally arrived, it looked like it may have done a couple of somersaults on the way over — portion sizes were… let’s call them “petite,” and not in the charming French-bistro kind of way.
I didn’t say anything straight away — I cut into the steak to find it more well-done than well-balanced, with a crispiness on the edge that felt less “seared” and more “oops.” The fries were suspiciously close to the McDonald's variety, when really, for that price, I’d expect a good chunky chip or at least something that didn’t feel like they were scooped from the bottom of a bag. The salad looked like it had lost the will to live.
I did mention the steak situation, and to their credit, they replaced it. But the second round took just as long, and while it was a slight upgrade in both salad volume and visual effort, it still didn’t quite justify the cost or the delay. I was hungry, and by this point, more interested in leaving with a full stomach than making a third attempt.
The kids’ burgers were dry, flat, and tasted mostly of bread. If the patty was any thinner, we’d have needed a microscope. Trying to get someone’s attention for dessert felt like trying to flag down a taxi in a power cut. We did eventually get them, but to be honest, I just wanted to leave by that point.
I don’t think I’ve ever left a restaurant feeling hungrier than when I walked in. That’s a new one for me.
Now, I appreciate the “kids eat free” offer — that’s a nice touch. But it feels like the way they recoup it is by shrinking portion sizes for everyone else and slapping on premium prices. £3.50 for a kids’ apple juice? Come on. For that price, I was expecting it to be freshly pressed by hand with a side of jazz flute.
Lastly — adding a tip automatically, without giving us the option, felt a little cheeky. I do like to tip. When it’s earned. But assuming it without the experience to back it up feels a bit presumptuous.
All in all, I don’t see us rushing back to Bill’s anytime soon. Not because I want to hold a grudge — I just prefer to leave a restaurant feeling...
Read moreWe went to Bills for a going away dinner. We had a large group of 15. This was one of the only restaurants we could find that could accommodate our large group. We had a smaller menu offered to us because of our group size and we had to place our order ahead of time. Not a big deal. I am gluten free and selected such from there menu. We arrived this evening and were told the item I ordered was in fact not gluten free. I’m not sure why it was on the gluten free menu. I instead got a VERY bland steak. Zero seasoning… I went too add salt and pepper and was surprised to find multiple things in the salt shaker!!! Black crap on the inside, specs of crap, and fur! So obviously I didn’t use that. Multiple orders were sent back due too being under cooked or just flat out wrong. I will say my gluten free brownie was very good. The over all atmosphere of the restaurant was fun and inviting. I wish I could say the same for the staff. When a lady comes in with a baby… ask her if she needs a baby seat. Don’t make me hunt one down on my own with my baby in tow. We also enjoyed some lovely entertainment as the staff loudly pushed through the restaurant with entire trash cans, went past a curtain, left the door open, and proceeded to loudly dump the trash. I’m also very big on bathroom hygiene. If a bathroom is clean at a restaurant then they probably have a clean kitchen. If the bathroom is gross then that’s probably how much effort they also put into their kitchen’s hygiene routine. The bathroom was horrific! Crap built up on the floors, toilet paper rolls sitting around, doors are gross, slime growing on the sinks backsplash and the sink itself, and crap in the crevices of the toilet seat. I’m disappointed in my visit. This could be so amazing and has so much potential to be better! I took a few pictures but was also busy...
