What’s to say about a place like this.. after trawling reviews online for roasts to eat in Cambridge I came across this one and was hoping this would be the perfect end to a lovely romantic getaway with my boyfriend. We ordered and within 5mins of ordering our food arrived this was a surprise considering there were a fair few tables occupied. It all made sense to though when I bit into that first potato.. hard and stale, clearly this whole dish had been left out plated cold and put under heaters for hours before serving. The Yorkshire to give it credit was the only good thing , probably because they take 5min to cook so likely the only fresh thing on the plate. The stuffing was extremely dry and claggy , the cabbage tasted worse than the smell of the London Underground on a sticky summers day. The potatoes were clearly frozen aunt Bessie’s and were really dry. The booth of sorts we were sat in was extremely uncomfortable and had almost no space for your legs , this wasn’t appreciated. Overall for nearly £20 per person we were extremely disappointed. I’ve eaten a roast for half the price and double the flavour & at least some fresh items.

Not too sure why this place has so many good reviews, we went here on a Sunday to grab a roast, should have known it was going to be really bad because you have to pay up front and advertising boards that look nothing like the food (It really wasn’t a best kept secret) We both had roast beef which turned up raw and cold! Not too sure what happened there, everything else was hot. We immediately send both our meals back, waited about 20 minutes then the beef turned up overcooked (Same plates) the vegetables and everything else was cold, you couldn’t make it up!! They did give us a refund for the food, gave us free desserts which was a nice gesture but not quite sure what the chef was doing that day.

Food- Overall was great in terms of taste, purple cabbage added a nice balance with the acidity. However, there were only 4 small potatoes (but were very crispy) which was a slight letdown. A small stuffing ball was nice as well but not enough. Cauliflower cheese was nice as well with decent browning for flavour, but more creamy and less cheesy though. Service- It was counter service so there wasn’t much interaction with the staff except asking for sauce and question regarding the meal. QR code wasn’t working to order either. Atmosphere- Decor of a bar/comedy club so not specifically designed for meals. Toilets were clean with baby-changing on the ground floor.

Menu is a complete an utter lie, customer service non existent, no air conditioning and too loud.

We were sat at our table which we had reserved, told them we would be ordering drinks pretty soon as soon we had a chance to look over the menu, we were told it was table service and so we asked for the waiter to come back soon for our drinks orders. We were sat at the front up the spiral stair case, we, along with the other people sitting upstairs were ignored for half an hour before anyone came up for our orders. We decided to order all our drinks and starters due to the time it had already taken.

One drink arrived, then ten minutes later our starters, then five minutes later our other two drinks arrived. So we had food before we all had all our drinks.

We then ordered food, the “focaccia” is just normal bread in the shape of focaccia. The “nachos” are literally just big triangular crackers. The sharing cheeseboard came with like 3 crackers, for the ratio of cheese, made no sense. The flavours in all our dishes left us wanting more.

The staff didn’t communicate to each other and two, three waiters would come up at once, ask us the same question one after the other, without speaking to each other. One of the occasions I informed the waitress that someone had just been up and asked us the same thing and she rolled her eyes at us. Later, when we wanted more drinks, no one was coming so a few of our group decided to just go to the bar and order, then someone turned up to ask us if we wanted anything else, we ordered more drinks to the table and still the people who queued at the bar were able to get their drinks so much faster and all we had ordered was wine.

The temperature in the place was boiling, we all had to take it in turns to grab some fresh air outside as we were all sweating and couldn’t hear ourselves talk as the music was ridiculously loud.

I wouldn’t recommend it for food, maybe if you’re going out for just drinks and you’re okay with waiting a long time...

My husband and I ordered beer and fish & chips. The waitress happened to spill a full glass of beer on me. It was an accident. I was completely soaked in beer, even my mobile. Luckily, the mobile still is working. The waitress gave me a new beer and apologized but no one wiped the floor soaked in beer. After a while we changed table. I asked if we could get some kind of compensation as my coat and my woolen skirt had to be dry cleaned as well as my down coat. I suggested dessert. In addition, one of my white leather shoes had been destroyed when it was brown with beer.  No, according to the manager, we could only get one beer as compensation.  The cost of dry cleaning and new shoes widely exceeds the cost of a beer. We did not want more beer now, so I asked if we could get this beer another day.  The waitress never returned why I, who still stank of beer and was drowned in beer went and picked her up. She said that if we wanted the beer, we had to drink it now, according to the manager.  A young man took over the conversation and he also said that we could get a beer only if we drank it now. Then I got really angry, why the manager, Paul showed up, apologized and said we could have two beers, another day. Does anyone think we will ever return to this place? Of course not. Beer is not important. The treatment is. I'm angry, sad and at least 100...

We hired the upstairs bar, theatre and terrace area of the Town & Gown for the evening reception for about 100 people following our wedding in Cambridge. It was an absolutely excellent choice and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic events space with decent capacity right in the centre of Cambridge.

The space itself was fantastic: we were able to set the theatre up with a dance floor and space for a live band to perform, which with the theatre lighting created a proper party atmosphere. The bar and terrace provided much more chilled spaces for guests to hang out and chat.

The service we received was first-rate. In advance of the booking Harley, who was responsible for the event, went out of his way to ensure it would be exactly as we wanted it. He really could not have been more helpful. This included arranging for the theatre lighting to be configured as we wanted it, helping to set up and run a projector slideshow of photos in the bar area, and even arranging for the bar's Pride flags to be flying outside on the day of our event.

On the night the service was friendly and super efficient. We had been worried there would be queues for drinks at the bar but it all ran incredibly smoothly.

All in all we were delighted with...
