As a Hungarian, I can honestly say this restaurant feels like a true home away from home. From the starters to the desserts, every dish is crafted with impeccable quality and authenticity. The flavors brought back memories of family meals, and the attention to detail in every bite was extraordinary.
The lángos was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with just the right amount of garlic and sour cream. The Gypsy King was flavorful, tender, and bursting with traditional spices. The Chicken Paprikash with Nokedli was rich, creamy, and utterly comforting. The codfish with cottage cheese pasta was exceptional. And for dessert, the poppy seed bread pudding and chestnut purée were nothing short of perfection—decadent, and authentic. The ambiance of the restaurant deserves special mention. The décor is stunningly authentic, meticulously capturing Hungary's rich cultural heritage. From the folk motifs to the warm lighting, every detail has been thoughtfully curated to transport you straight to a Hungarian countryside inn.
The staff were incredibly professional and kind, with fast service that never felt rushed.
For anyone visiting, I highly recommend pairing your meal with a glass of Hungarian wine or a shot of pálinka to complete the experience.
All in all, this was an exceptional culinary journey that I will definitely return to. Whether you're Hungarian or just someone looking to explore authentic cuisine, this restaurant is...
Read moreJust had midweek Dinner at (Taste of) Hungary and totally loved it. Place had been recommended by a Croatian colleague of my husband who said it reminded him of home. I loved the food, the decor (reminded me of my Germany exchange trips in the 1980s) and a delightful waiter (in fact the best I've seen in very long time, just impeccable service but also a lovely individual). I had a beef stew with delicate dumplings (reminded me of Spaezle for anyone who's been to Schwaben in Germany), we had the liver platter as a starer that was dead good and I'm normally no fan of liver but that was very well seasoned. One of my sons had an enormous plate of breaded chicken breasts and one of the sides, tripled cooked fries, was out of this world.
The decor is very well thought through and implemented, a lot of thought has gone into the most minute details, like the lovely little napkins with 1970s flowers, walls are wood pannelled, tables are sat on old sewing machines. Lighting is great, it was warm and cosy (which sounds obvious but isnt on a chilly windy night when the restaurant has a full pane of glass as a shop front). We were offered complimentary Hungary paprika chillies and liqueurs to share at the end.
Thoroughly recommend and will come again. I'd like to try the desserts next time and come...
Read moreAn absolute hidden gem on Chesterton Road! I had the pleasure of dining at Taste from Hungary and was completely blown away from the moment I stepped in until the moment I left.
I tried the livers selection and had a beef strew with red wine for main, paired with a shot of Palinka, and every bite (and sip!) was an explosion of rich, authentic Hungarian flavours. You can really taste the love and tradition in their cooking — hearty, warming, and absolutely delicious.
What made the experience even more special was the incredible hospitality. The owner and their wonderful colleague were so friendly, attentive, and passionate about what they do. It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home.
This place is a must-visit if you're looking for genuine Hungarian cuisine and warm, personal service. I’ll definitely be returning— and...
