The inside & service: The restaurant has a retro feeling, and there was only one server when I went, however there were no problems in terms of service. Very kind man. Selection of music is also very tranquil and soft. Chill atmosphere.
The Food: Soft, amazing basmati rice with cinnamon aroma, The lamb curry I ordered was incredibly nice, the meat was tender, the chargrilled vegetables inside the curry was not over cooked and kept a nice texture. The plate seemed small in size, but it was more than satisfactory.
Location: The restaurant is in the backstreet, in the shadow. I truly wish it was in the main street for more attention, however I also enjoyed the discrete ambience of the restaurant.
To conclude: The food is not completely traditional, and slight adjustments has been made in the recipe, probably in order to adapt the taste to the customers which comes.
I really enjoyed the meal, and it definitely is better than the common burgers and pizzas you get in Cambridge.
Definitely recommended, I'll...
Read moreWe nipped in to Curry King for a sneaky Monday-lunch pint of Kingfisher and, as one might expect for midday on a Monday, we were the only customers. This can be a little worrying so I tend not to be too harsh on businesses at this time of day and, to be fair, the place wasn't too bad.
The service was very good, staff very friendly, and prices were reasonable - especially for Cambridge. £35 saw the two of us have a couple of pints of Kingfisher, enough popadums to feed the five thousand, all the trimmings and a main meal each, with rice and a peshwari naan.
The food was served quickly, it was all very fresh, but did lack a bit in flavour compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to and the popadums were a little on the oily side. My pathia was described in the menu as "fairly hot" but they'd obviously erred on the side of caution for a Monday lunch as it was "everso slightly warmer than mild".
But no complaints - a nice meal for a cheeky one...
Read moreThe managers here don't seem to think students deserve fair customer treatment: They double booked our group with another and failed to make the group before us leave to make space for the 2 (!!) new groups (although probably not even our own group would've fit in that room, they declared more space than they actually had). We stood waiting outside for one hour, waiting for the previous group to leave or to get our deposit back (which the restaurant point-blank refused). Only sending in a big guy eventually at least got us our money back. From other students' stories of previous bookings it seems that Curry King routinely double book or overlap bookings of student groups, counting on one group cancelling/not showing up/grudgingly leaving and them being able to keep the deposit. Seriously, don't support...
