Baron of Beef — Restaurant in Cambridge

Very disappointing experience, it was my 1st time going to this pub and for sure I wouldn’t be going back again. On arrival we asked for a kids menu and was informed they didn’t have one, but had high chairs scattered around. I ordered “fish goujons” from the small plates for my child, and 2 salt beef burgers that stated on the menu came with cheese. We waited 35 minutes and when the food arrived I had a cod fillet cut into 5 pieces that was NOT fish goujons. The waitress accidentally dropped the whole portion of my chips over the table and the floor. The manager on shift came over and asked if we was happy to eat the chips off the table/floor or if we would like a new portion. I politely asked for another portion which took another 15 minutes. During that time we noticed the burger had no cheese, we asked if we could have some cheese brought to us so we could at least eat the burger whilst we waited for the chips. This also took a long time and we was presented with a bowl of half grated/half sliced cheese. Because of this our burger was now cold and the lady offered to take the burger back to the kitchen to have the cheese melted, by this point we had been waiting an hour to eat our food, as the chips still hadn’t come at this point either. So we politely declined. The manager said she had been arguing with the chef because he doesn’t speak any English, and offered us a free round of drinks that never came. Four of us went today to have breakfast in town. It was close to lunch time and very busy in town today as being bank holiday weekend. We found this place and happily they still cooked breakfast for us. The apthmosfere was very friendly. Quiet music, you could nicely eat and talk over breakfast. Lovely Jazzy music in the background. The food was outstanding for my taste. I am Romanian of orrigine. Who knows Romanians they are known for their great food. Then food wise I certainly can say that it was over my expectation. The staff were very friendly, making us, or talking only for myself, feel welcomed. The toilets are small but cosy. Very clean and tidy. Small futures, little flowers, adding cosiness to the place. Very much appreciated the attention to details. Myself and my partner will definitely recommend this place. We would like to take my brother and his partner when they visit us, for a meal at the Baron of Beef restaurant. Which despite the "beef" they have a great selection of vegetarian dishes, and the vegetarian breakfast was just delicious and at a very good price. Overall myself and my partner, we were very happy with the experience. We will definitely eat there again....

Terrible I would not recommend this place to anyone. I called them up and asked them when food was starting and they said 12 midday and this was 4 days prior as my family was visiting me In cambridge from Essex we turned up at 12 then to be told food is not served till 12.30 and they said had emailed me which was fair enough . we went came back when they said we came in asked to be seated as I booked aswell so we all sat down bought a drink to see what we wanted to eat and we decided and went to order and mostly everything was off the menu when they could of at least let me know of this on 2 occasions i had been there and prior of that day . Literally terrible service were a bit rude aswell luckily went next door for food and was the best pie I've ever tasted. I would not go to BARON OF BEEF !!!! rude staff not at all pleased you were in there and shocking food service deserve to not be open to serve food and I'm glad I diddnt eat there and went next door to be honest they don't even deserve my money what a waste of time when I had family comimg down for the day.
