This pub is delicious!!

Decent scotch egg. Jammy yolk (though not runny), crunchy shell, balanced spice, and not-greasy pork. The salad is great.

ā€œSteak is special, but the risotto will always be thereā€ā€” that’s why I never get to the classic menu in restaurants haha. Perfectly cooked, lean but tender and juicy. (To be honest I didn’t expect much for a pub but this was a good surprise.) The salad sauce is citrusy and refreshing. It soaked the steak as well so I really didn’t need the satay sauce :3 the chips are dangerously crispy, unlike those in many other British restaurants.

The white sauce for the scallops is delightful, light with a hint of lemon. The scallops are on the slightly undercooked side. I like raw food, but maybe frying it a little longer would work better with the sauce. The mushrooms are lovely.

The staff are friendly, and the young lady at the bar gives god recommendations.

Looking forward to coming back for the regular menu (and specials). (Rarebit and anchovies, Jerusalem artichoke risottos, blood orange scallops… all...

Positives first, the food is excellent, and the food servers were excellent. Seafood broth was good, cheese Ploughman’s amazing, and beetroot croquettes were fantastic

The beers are a little disappointing, 4 to 5 drab, Greene King style cask ales, then the usuals Guinness, a couple of lagers, and neck oil. Pretty uninspiring. Other pubs locally doing much more interesting beers.

The wines however, were lovely, and very well priced.

Service was a little hit and miss, exemplified by someone putting a double whiskey on our bill which we hadn’t authorised.

Bar girl took it off immediately, which was good, but seemed surprised that us, as a couple dining alone, didn’t have an American chap ordering a double whiskey on our bill!

A little bit more care is needed from the service...

We love this pub and having been coming years every time we visit Cambridge. A proper local pub hidden away. Sadly though we had probably our worst meal there yesterday evening. Everything on the menu had gone by 7.15pm so we were left with fish and chips (so so) and the absolutely awful battered courgette offering. We expected perhaps tasty slices of courgette, flavoursome with seasoning in batter and a nice side dish. Alas and shocking it was a whole courgette, undercooked in batter (looked like a bizarre beached greasy lump sitting across the palte) with dry mashed peas as the side and bland chips. Just appalling. We'll continue to return to this fine pub but won't eat...

Dropped on by for lunch before our train in a convenient spot tucked away about 20 minutes walk to the station but close to the Grafton centre We ordered the crispy squid, the vegetarian scotch egg and as pictured the chicken kiev, whilst all the food was delicious the Kiev was an absolute winner and everyone who tried it commented as such. The beers are reasonably priced and they have a good range of draft ales. There is a good amount of outdoor seating with some sheltered in case of rain
