š“Indian Food at it's BEST! š
š“Customer Service on point šš¼
š“This place is a Hidden Gem in Cambridge!!!
š“On many MANY occasions, my family & I have travelled specially (over 1 hour & 30 minutes) to just eat here! I think we had visited atleast once a week for the last few months (mostly June 2023 to Dec 23). We visit Addenbrookes Hospital often & we stumbled across this gem only in the last year (by car, it's approximtely a 10 minute drive from thr hopsital too).
š“Highly Recommended Dishes: Pani Puri (Indian Street Food Snack) Dhosa with Sambar (Plain or Masala Dhosa both very tasty) Chicken Biriyani (comes with Raita, this Biriyani is one of the best Biriyanis I have had!) Junglee Mass (A type of Lamb Curry) Garlic Naan (Super Soft & Fluffy) Rangeela (Freshly Squeezed Mixed Juice) Boozy Mango Lassi (An Extreamly Boozy Cocktail with an Indian Twist!) Thaali (A Selection of Food)
š“Tiffin Truck always has some sort of mid-week offer, so if you're on a tight budget or just looking for a little bargain, you will definately find something, from a Lunch Thali or Lunch Special, Drinks Offers or Cocktail Offers, no longer accept Meerkat but instead they now accept Tastecard which includes full price drinks too!
Please Note: Using these offers does not take away from the amazing food quality. They will serve you their best food as any other customer. I have read other reviews that mention issues around using these offers, but we have been almost every week for the last few months & honestly never had any issues. Yes, the staff kindly & rightfully ask for you to let them know in advance and they are extreamly kind & accommodating when you get there, you really couldn't ask for more.
š“Parking & Accessibility : There is various paid off-street parking but be sure to arrive early as it can get busy & parking isn't easily available so may have to find parking elsewhere. Off-Street Disabled Bays (very limited) The Restaurant itself is all One Level with Ground-Floor Access. There are 2 separate toilets to use (1 of them with disabled & baby changing facilities). No Automatic Entrance Doors
š“Overall Summary: Score 10/10 Amazing food, authentic drinks selection for drinkers & non-drinkers, amazing talented chefs, kind hardworking staff and managers who really care how the place is run and that their customers are looked after š Worth every penny! And if you go on a day they have offers running, then it's a bonus!
š“Thanks Tiffin Truck, we will keep coming back regularly š
Message to Tiffin Truck: Please continue with the amazing offers! It's a shame you are no longer on Meerkat but so glad you offer Tastecard with drinks. We have paid full price aswell as use the offers but it brings us back more often when we know there are offers running. Please also make your online booking for this a little easier as there is currently no extra note section via the Google Booking system to mention we are using Tastecard. Please get yourselves on Tiktok and other social media platforms for people to help spread the word about your amazing food š Please add a really good Chocolatey Dessert Option š Thank you to all your staff & managers who genuinely care that your customers are enjoying their meals, they check in multiple times during the meal & always ensure they've taken the order correctly. They deserve some recognition & mention in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe recently hired Tiffin Truck catering service for a special event, and Iām excited to share our wonderful experience. We requested a custom-tailored South Indian menu with a traditional vaala illai service (serving on banana leaves), and everything, from the food to the service, was outstanding. The menu was carefully curated to include traditional South Indian dishes such as sambar, vattha kolambu (spicy stew), mango pachadi (tangy and sweet), along with vada, poriyal(dry mixed veg), curd rice, pickle and payasam (dessert). The restaurant team worked closely with us to meet our preferences, adjusting spice levels and ensuring vegetarian options were well represented. The customization process was seamless and tailored to our needs.
The food exceeded our expectations in both taste and authenticity. The sambar was perfectly spiced, while the vattha kolambu stood out for its bold, tangy flavors. The mango pachadi offered a delightful sweet and tangy contrast, balancing out the meal beautifully. One of the absolute highlights of the meal was the dal payasam. It was rich, creamy, and had the perfect sweetnessāeveryone raved about how delicious it was. It was the ideal way to end the meal on a sweet note, and many guests complimented how it tasted just like homemade, traditional South Indian payasam. Each dish showcased the freshness of the ingredients and the authenticity of the preparation.
The restaurant also managed the vaala illai service (serving food on banana leaves) with great professionalism. Their team arrived fully prepared, and the servers handled the traditional serving process with care and respect for the cultural significance of the practice. They placed each dish in the correct order on the leaves, enhancing the overall authenticity of the dining experience. Guests were delighted by the traditional service, and the servers were efficient in ensuring that everyone was well taken care of, contributing to the smooth flow of the event.
The presentation of the food and the service provided were both excellent. The catering team arrived on time, handled the setup with ease, and ensured everything was in place before the event started. They ensured that each dish was served fresh and hot, and were knowledgeable about the items being served.
Overall, Our experience with tiffin Truck catering was exceptional. The authentic South Indian dishes, particularly the dal payasam and mango pachadi, were a hit with all of our guests. The vaala illai service was managed flawlessly, adding to the traditional feel of the event. The food quality, professionalism of the staff, and attention to detail made the event truly memorable. I would highly recommend Tiffin Truck for anyone looking to host a South Indian event with an authentic menu and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreActually turns out delicious (better than expected), especially for tomato fans.
My first thali ever! The dishes are all flavorful. The dal is so warming and tomatoey.
The lamb comes in large chunks, lean but not tough. Also tomatoey but has a stronger ginger note.
The chickpeas are tasty as well. Always a fan of chickpea and the cloves make it different from the Middle Eastern style. The samosa is also a lovely pocket of mushy peas. Tomato soup and yoghurt are quite refreshing. The pickles are really powerful. It seems that the veggie dish today is the potato⦠the cumin seasoning is not bad but I already have enough carb on my plate (enjoyed the chappati and pappadom and sorry Iāll remember to ask for less rice next time. Itās fluffy and nice tho).
The thali portion is just right for an indulgent meal without over stuffing myself. And I didnāt feel hungry even after six hours :3
Fish curry was recommended over lamb by one of the staff member but I am hungry today and craving red meat. Maybe next time!
The Love Cambridge deal works nice for me to give it the restaurant a try (because one of my Indian friends had opinion against it :3) It turns out fairly good, although most flavors are tomato-based and hence quite predictable. Will be happy to come back for the normal price.
Waiting time is tolerable, though the neighboring table did miss an item and had to cancel.
The smell of the incense is so good.. very different from the expected aroma of spice and gives a calming feeling. Itās the first thing that stroke me. Almost empty before 12. There are dark and brighter areas with vibes of dark lanes and sunlit courtyards. I was led to the darker zone near the front of the shop which hurt my eyes lol.

Second time in three days :) as said Iāll be coming back after the restaurant week too.
Tried the fish curry today. To be honest I prefer lamb. The fish boiled in tomato soup is not extraordinary or flavorful enough and slightly dry inside.
Tried an upgraded thali. Itās interesting that the bites are preselected according to the main item. (Indian omakase :3) The fried chili prawn is crispy and tasty. The fried onion is quite burnt on the other hand. The dal today is more cinnamon flavored, not as exciting as the last one but still nice.
The gulab Jamin is indulgent, dangerously not too sweet and has a lovely grainy texture.
And I definitely appreciate that masala chai is not sweetened by default :D wonderful with milk and tea leaves and spices without...
