Not the Best Greene king pub I have been to, the pub is next to Willen south lake. The decor looks tired and furnishings and just general area is well used. I came here on a Friday afternoon to have a late lunch looked at the menu and they do lunch upto 5pm Monday to friday, which are cheaper meals compared to the full price section in the same menu, only to find out the meals are smaller, compared to the full price section. The menu does not mention that and a member of the bar staff told me when I questioned two fish and chip meals, one costing £14.19 and the cheaper fish and chips costing £8.79, the lady explaind that the full price meal was cod and the cheaper meal was a cod substitute, so beware when ordering cheaper meals as they are smaller and you get a substitute when ordering fish and chips. I had to wait 35 minutes for meal to arrive and there was no apology for the delay from the waitress. Staff are ok, but could be more tentative and to ask if the meal was up to standard when finished. When I finished eating, my empty plate was never collected and that applies to every table where people have eaten. There was a manager on duty and she never instructed or took it on herself to clear the tables. During weekends it gets worse as staff are overwhelmed and tables left with plates sitting there, until customers instruct the staff to clear a table so they can sit there. Summer time multiply that 10 times and you can imagine what the tables look like after lunch or dinner. Toilets are absolutely disgusting and not regularly cleaned.

Review of Willen Lake Greene King - June 2025 My recent visit to Willen Lake Greene King was deeply disappointing and frustrating. Upon arrival, we were informed that bookings were required, despite no prior indication of this policy. I explained that we had traveled a long distance and that my son has disabilities, hoping for some flexibility. The staff member I spoke with was unhelpful, stating she was unsure if we could be seated even if we made a booking on the spot. After waiting 20 minutes outside, we secured a reservation, but the ordeal continued. When we returned, the manager’s attitude was shockingly rude. She reluctantly allowed us to dine, emphasizing that it was an exception because the booking was made same-day. This lack of accommodation and poor customer service set a negative tone for the experience. The food quality was appalling—everything was burnt and utterly unacceptable. I am reporting this to the local food authority, as no establishment should serve food of such low standard. Having visited this location previously and enjoyed decent meals, I am appalled by how far the quality has declined. The food served was unfit even for a pet, and I am genuinely concerned that someone could fall ill. I refrained from raising these issues on-site due to the difficulties we already faced just gaining entry. Overall, the combination of unaccommodating staff, rude management, and inedible food made this a dreadful experience. I strongly urge others to avoid this establishment until significant improvements are made.

We pre-booked a table for two families for Sunday lunch. Restaurant was really really busy both inside and out. Both the Beef Sunday lunch and Veggie Wellington Sunday lunch had run out! We waited nearly 2 hours between order and food arriving! The drinks we ordered to have with the food were long gone by the time we got our “it’s going to be another 10 minutes” so a second round of drinks were supplied for free with deserts offered free as well. The fixtures and fittings of the place are tired and broken, the place is a bit grubby with toilets out of order. (So much so we saw ladies sneaking in the gents!) When the food finally turned up the kids pizza meal was a 2 minute microwave Chicago Town type pizza, the mash on the Sunday lunch was clearly smash packet mash and the chicken was dry. The Yorkshire pudding was more like a tepid pancake than a Yorkshire? There is no veggie option gravy! It’s all beef!! So watch what you get on your veggie food, we got Beef gravy on a veggie meal??? The servers and front of house staff were really apologetic and polite and professional but the kitchen left a lot to be desired. The bill was heavily discounted but I just don’t think it’s worth coming back until major changes take place.

I booked a table for 7 for 12:30. We didn’t know that there was a Marathon happening in Willen Lake today (which made parking for us a bit harder than usual). We got to the door around 12:37-12:38, the host asked me with a condescending tone ‘can I help you?’ I said ‘yes, we have a booking for 12:30’ she just got louder and went ‘YES, YOU’RE VERY LATE, I nearly gave your reservation to someone else’ People were looking at us! I mentioned to her that I thought there was a 15 minutes gracing period. She went ‘YEAH, but if you didn’t turn up in the next 5 minutes I would have let your table go’ she kept giving us attitude..we would have understand if we didn’t turn up in the 15mins gracing period, we would have lost our table, but we got there in under 10mins. I would have personally walked out there and then, however my partners family is about to arrive and I didn’t want to make a hustle on going to a different place for food (specially they drove for over 2hrs to get here). I was taken back from the lady with the black cardigan (about 55-65 years old) that I couldn’t even focus on checking the menu. She was also talking about us to her staff, like pointing at us a lot. Which made me feel so uncomfortable. We have overheard her serving the next table who was also a little late (we know because one of them mentioned it quite loud) and she basically shrugged it off and was smiling at him (while all we got from her was attitude).

We can see that they were quite busy, so we understand that the service is going to be a bit slower than usual. Some of the food we wanted to order was already out for them, and it did took a while. (A bit longer than a 15 mins gracing period).

It wasn’t all bad only because the waitress we had was a nice newbie who have great energy, attentiveness and was very polite (10/10 for Customer Service). If it weren’t for her I would have gone for 1 star. The nice waitress had dark curly hair, quite young, unfortunately I didn’t catch her name but very nice service for her. Nice view from...

I’ve visited Lakeside many times before and had lots of positive experiences! This time however left me never wanting to visit this establishment again, or any other place holding the Greene King name if this is how they instruct their staff to treat people. Customer service used to be the corner stone of any Greene restaurant, but I’m sad to say that seems to have been lost along the way. I arrived with a large party on a beautiful Thursday afternoon. The restaurant had lots of empty tables inside and out so thought I would ask if they could accommodate us. We were met at the door by a member of staff who seemed to not want to be at work that day and genuinely put out that I was asking for a table. We asked to sit to outside as it was nearly empty and a lovely summers day, was told he would have to check if he could serve us! I was confused as the restaurant was not busy, but thought as we were a large party maybe they couldn’t sit us together. He disappeared into the back for a few moments and returned and said, “No we can’t do that.” I asked what he meant, and he said that he couldn’t serve us. Me thinking it was the party size asked if we could sit separate and treat us as individual covers and take some booths within the restaurant and our party would split up so we could carry on enjoying our day with a nice meal. We were told “No sorry, try Brewers Frayre down the road.” Shocked, I stated that we were now small groups just looking to be seated separately, I was cut off by the member of staff saying “ I’m just telling you what I was told.” I was very embarrassed as there was customers other customers behind us and had now point blank been refused entry to a restaurant I had previously enjoyed. I wonder if Nick Mackenzie knows of the lack of customer service rooting itself within the Lake Side restaurant in Milton Keynes. Along with members of staff sending customers to its competitors. For the record, Brewers Frayre was amazing and...

Drove here from southwest I couldn't comment on the food the kitchen closes at 9pm company hours however after our booked sessions we planned to eat around 7pm with the children at the lakeside pub. Got to lakeside at 6.42pm was told there is no more roast dinners ok fair enough. Went back to my table changed our choice. It was now 6.47pm asked for kids chicken nuggets was told sorry kitchen closed. I was taken back as I am sure when planning this trip 2 weeks in advance I knew the kitchen closed at 9pm on Sundays. I am no one's fool so I went to found the table waitress. (Waitress and waiters always spill the beans) the truth of the matter is. The dishwasher was broken and the lazy staff who are paid for their jobs couldn't be bothered to wash the pots and the chef has had enough. So being the close nitted team they are the chef and certain members of bar staff decided to close the kitchen. Firstly 10/10 for team.work I mean they all agreed to do the public and their kids over together. However that's a 0 for customers Satisfaction and a -0 for meeting the customers needs. The poor waitress couldn't clear the tables for the fast paste turn over and the bar staff and chef that won't cook stood at the bar talking give the girl a hand make the place run efficiently. Place needs a good clean new staff a chef that will meet the customers needs and 2 more waitresses to help the young girl out. And closing half the restaurant due to lack of motivation to clean it at the end of the day was the stupidest decision of all. It quite clear employees manage the pub not the owners. As owners would not prevent sales they encourage them. If this was my business I would be fuming as they easily lost £2000-£3,500 today. Poorly managed could be a outstanding venue with the right team of staff I know well greenking is a company that look after their staff so it is very disappointing to see what the employees bring to the table. Ie nothing...
