I visited Il Posticino this weekend with my partner. From the moment we stepped through the door we were made to feel welcome. The seating was upstairs in a light, spacious and comfortable area. Tables were nicely spaced and beautifully set and so clean. We were able to choose between tables which was lovely. The atmosphere was light and there was a good mix of customers, from couples to a large family group next to us. Service was excellent. Friendly, respectful and professional. It was so nice to feel relaxed and not pressured. The menu offered great choices without being overwhelming, and although the server apologised for the wait, there was no need. He very graciously corrected my poor attempt at reading my order in Italian which I appreciated. Pici pronounced peachy not picky in typical English fashion. The food was delicious, hot and beautifully presented. My partner had risotto and I had pici with fennel. Gorgeous! I didn’t think it could get better until dessert arrived which I could’ve eaten over again. A replacement to the menu, a chocolate crème brûlée (mousse) with raspberry sorbet and pistachios. Heaven! If you visit Canterbury don’t leave without eating here, you won’t be disappointed. A real family run gem! If the server makes it to Cambridge to study his Masters I wish him good luck in his studies. Thank you for making our...
Read moreI ate dinner here with my partner on her birthday. We started with a selection of Italian bread and the Frittura Di Gamberi (Deep fried prawns with red onion and raspberry chutney) a delicious way to start the meal. The prawns were meaty and juicy.
For our main course; I had a Primi Piatti that included a pappardelle in a rich ragu of very tender wild boar with pasta was perfectly coated in a tomato sauce. I enjoyed this dish immensely and would highly recommend it. My partner ordered baked orecchiette with aubergines, tomatoes, basil and smoked Scamorza cheese, and enjoyed the flavours.
With our meal, we had a bottle of Aurora Falerio. We were not impressed with this wine as it did not go very well with the meal and felt it was a bit of a letdown. I would not drink it again.
For dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse on a biscuit base with raspberries and white chocolate shavings, a real crowd pleaser and one of my favourite desserts.
I ordered a Cosmopolitan cocktail which was made perfectly.
All-in-all, except for the Aurora Falerio wine (next time we will try something different) it was a wonderful meal with a homemade and traditional feel to the dishes. We look forward to eventually trying the entire menu....
