Rahman's Golden Oven — Restaurant in Canterbury

We ate here just before Christmas and we were the only diners eating in. We thought this would mean that we obtained excellent waiter service, but alas this wasn't the case. The waiter so busy taking telephone orders, that these took priority, or so it seemed, the service when we were attended to was excellent. The food was not spicy at all and my dish rather tasteless, my family enjoyed their meal. I was later advised that Bengali food favours the addition of more turmeric and less spice which may account for feelings on the food. I would say that we got an overwhelming feeling of cleanliness and it's an odd thing to say but the food was clean. This place is not licensed to sell alcohol which suited us as we are non drinkers. You can bring your own and they charge corkage. this might well be why it was empty in the week...

Naan incredibly sweet. Loaded with sugar.

Madras gravy is the worst I've ever had. Horrible consistency. Runny too.

I asked for my bhindi to be spicy. It was very mild. I ordered 2 of them as well. I wrote on just eat to make it spicy AND called to make sure it would be.

Mushroom rice is passable.

Overall really really bad meal. There's as much sugar in the naan breads as there is in a can of cola I bet.

It's also typical Bangladeshi. There's not a single authentic Indian restaurant that I know of in Kent.

India is vast, from Punjabi dishes to Gujarati dishes.

Almost every 'Indian' restaurant in the UK is Bangladeshi. Grease laden, sugar...

You should definitely try this little gem. Could not fault service, food or cleanliness. We ordered a prawn and another fish based curry, a chicken and a lamb korai and the were all very very good. We went a little mad with sides and have taken home two lunches for tomorrow😊 you can take your own alcohol and a small corkage is charged or there are plenty of soft drinks available and zero alcohol beers. Good varied menu including octopus which we didn’t try. Looking forward to seeing Rahman and his sons again soon. Update. Hefty price increase. Food was still good but bill was 20% more...
