I remember this used to be Safeway 20 years ago. Popped in here to get some food for my long drive home. Lovely store, lots of homeware, a small range of clothing, Christmas items in stock (decorations, ornaments, food, wrapping paper). Store has toilets and a cafe.

Yesterday we bought a 1kg punnet of strawberries from Waitrose Canterbury and today when we were about to eat them we only managed to salvage 370g of strawberries despite them being in date. This is a disgrace and waste of £4.

A small coffee shop inside of the Waitrose that is near to the city centre of Canterbury. Good, strong coffee for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the cleaness (or lack of cleaness) wasn't that reasonable.

They don't keep moving stock to different locations. Makes shopping an easier experience. Not the cheapest food store but still prefer it to others.

Edit Update:

Something has changed in this store over last two weeks (early Feb 2016)

Last three visits only two staff on main checkouts - long queues and staff walking about but no new tills opened. Basket and auto tills full with queues too. There didn't appear to be any management of staff being directed to open extra tills. Very disappointing as this is usually an excellent store in this respect. Customers around me were also complaining. Perhaps staff on tills could has some way of alerting management that extra tills need opening or have someone in management monitoring the situation and acting as required. Many people who use this store are on breaks or on their way home from work and haven't the time to be held up in queues.

UPDATE AUG 2016 Store working well now - checkouts well manned and efficient. A small but great store - and as mentioned earlier they don't keep moving...

Previous visits to the store have been a good experience, although the cafe has been oout of soup on two occasions during lunch times. Today service was I felt quite slow although few customers at first, this was around 2 pm. I also feel the list of food item headings not that clear, especialy when needing to make a quick decision. Fine if one is a regular customer.

One thing that really did cause me to want to leave the store, was a nice group of ladies singing carols near the lift area.

For heavens sake, it's only the 14th November!!! We've been involved with Halloween, Guy Fawkes Armistice, Children in Need over the past two weeks, can you not wait until December please!!

Canterbury is my nearest Waitrose, other than Ashford or...

Upmarket supermarket. Not as expensive as you might think for good food - depending what you buy. However, standard common brand goods are more expensive than other supermarkets. Eg you could pay 10-20% more for a basic branded loaf of bread. But don't be deterred, there are many discounts and excellent promotions for big discounts when you are a member. Also, become a member and the have free coffee, latte, cuppachino etc. on every visit. Free parking (with restrictions) also available under and over ground. Nice friendly well presented staff always available. Have hand held scanners to scan as you go and load shopping immediately into shopping bags whist shopping. Has a cafe and...
