Disappointing to say the least, We had a limited amount of time and my wife has severely impaired mobility so when we were shown to our table to be then curtly told that the menus were to be found over by the front door was not the most auspicious of starts to our visit there. It soon became apparent the the term Waitress was misinterpreted by the staff to mean "The person who makes you wait" We were (Eventually) told that we should place our orders at the counter, I ordered a coffee and a pot of tea, which I then had to take to my table as apparently the waitress was otherwise engaged on her phone, I also ordered a bacon roll and sausage in a bun. As we waited my tepid coffee cooled even more, we watched as other tables were served and drank our by now cold beverages, eventually a member of staff seemed to remember that we had ordered food and made some sort of vague apology, unfortunately we were now out of time and needed to leave, with no one offering any for of refund I eventually had to ask for one. for which I was then made to wait as it was evidently more important to take money off other people before refunding a customer who had already stated that they needed to get back to their car as their time was about to expire. Not sure if this was just ignorance or a willful attempt to skip refunding us at.
I would heartily recommend people find another venue to try in Carlisle city center as this one is just not up to standard and Carlisle has far...
Read moreNot up the usual standard. We arrived and waited by the sign “please wait here to be seated” no one came and there was a queue forming at the counter. After a while one of the servers asked if everyone had a table alr a table and went up to order. The service was slow moving but when my husband returned it wasn’t too long before my meal and the children’s bag meals arrived. They didn’t have the fruit we chose, no worries, I thought. The fruit they did send was past best. The banana heavily blackened and the apple with a large soft bruise. Hungry, we cut around and made do. As the children and I finished I realised my husbands burger still had not arrived and I went up to ask how long it would be. “Who ordered a burger?” The server asked- over my head to another member of staff, me- I thought- and I’m standing right here. The server at the counter confirmed we had ordered a burger. No apology was made and the said they would put it through now. By this point the children were restless so I bought a cake to placate the eldest and took the babies for a walk. My husband eventually got his order. Still no apology. The burger was burnt and difficult to eat, the potato wedges- solid and largely inedible. We have previously had good experiences, I don’t know what has gone wrong but don’t think we will be returning...
Read moreA wonderful café. Always busy. There was some controversy over this development, but I love the in-keeping architecture and those huge windows because who wouldn't want that view whilst grabbing a cuppa. You can get breakfast or lunch and snacks throughout the day. The fresh cheese scones are a favourite of mine with a pot of Earl Grey. I have also sampled some of the fabulous cakes! If you're just passing through and on the move, there are takeaway options available. For you and your four-legged friends, there's outdoor seating all year round. In the better weather, there's plenty of outdoor seating covering the square courtyard between the cathedral and the cafe, too. The facilities are well kept, and toilets include baby changing and accessible options. The whole cafe is accessible with push-button operated doors and a lift to the Fratry. There's short stay free on-street disc zone parking close by and plenty of pay parking around the city. It's also only a short walk from both the bus terminals and...
