It has been several years since we last visited Caravelli but my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a date night. We used to be regulars years ago but at that time (previous owners) we had a bad experience and the owner at that time didn't allow his staff to credit our bill with the, still frozen and raw inside, swordfish that my wife was served but having heard that it had changed owners we decided to give Caravelllis another chance It didn't start too well when, at the bar, I asked if they had any sparkling and the guy behind the bar said "No but we have Prosecco". !?!? The atmosphere in the restaurant is somewhat lacking, with the lighting quite bright and fairly basic wood/laminate tables with no cloths. The food was no more than average. My wife fared better than me, her first course of deep fried goats cheese and main course of seafood with pasta tasting ok. My first course was "Chicken livers on Crostini. A Caravelli speciality. The chicken livers were overcooked, the red wine sauce more like a splash of red wine that hadn't been cooked out and the Crostini burnt on one side. Decided that this could just be a glitch and not to say anything until I had seen what my main course was like. Unfortunately the cream sauce served with my chicken tasted as if it had not been properly cooked out and was totally bland, the pot of vegetables were bland and tasteless though they were supposed to be oven roasted. The chicken itself was ok. When asked if everything was ok I explained my dissatisfaction and to be fair to the waiter and manager they asked if there was something else they could get me, but I didn't have any appetite by now so they did take the bottle of house wine we had off the bill. The manager did tell me that it was the 2nd chef cooking tonight, in charge for the first time but that the chef was overseeing him. I would hope that this is not the norm for this restaurant but unfortunately once re-bitten...
Read moreWent lastnight with a friend for the £19.50 pasta menu 3 course which we thought was a starter a main and a pudding. It was actually a starter a main and a glass of house wine which tasted like vinegar and to my astonishment no chicken pasta dish. We had mushroom starter very disappointed thought was getting a bowl of garlic mushrooms it was 4 button mushrooms a bit of lettuce and garlic oil drizzle very very disappoint. My friend had lasagne came with no salad or garlic bread so she asked for both at an extra cost of £3.90 each on top of the £1¥.5₩ and I had pasta with broccoli and italian sausage . When mine came out it was like a starter seemed they had but just 3 tablespoons full at the bottom of the dish and patted it down to spread it out. I was horrified and called the waitress over. The manager came over and said I'll bring some more out which he did and I was gragrateffor. The garlic bread as and extra cost was like 3 bite size sausage rolls disgusting portions.tried charging us £66.90 said the wine they gave us wasnt housewife there fault so we argued this and they took the wine off the bill .Also on table was a bowl of 8 olives and 2 slices of bloomer no butter which we thought was complimentary oh no on the bill £3.95 each disgusting they should ask and not assume you want them.we did get the bill down to £56 for somewhat should have been £39 and they eryud and abrupt when we was about to leave because we had challenged them. We was still hungry when we left the portion sizes are kiddie portions at extautionate prices we would not recommend or go back there la favourite in the high street is much better value for money and decent portions. I had in there 3 comes a starter a main course and a pudding for just £33 2 weeks ago shame on...
Read moreA truly outstanding authentic and lovely Italian restaurant!! Tuesday night was the second time of visiting within the last month. We have now just found our favourite restaurant! The food is absolutely gorgeous, freshly cooked and served to perfection. The ambience and the service you receive is impeccable. From the moment you walk through the door you are welcomed in true Italian style. We visited this time with our elderly parents and Pasquale was very attentive and even added a little cheeky Italian humour along the way which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We can honestly say we have never experienced an Italian restaurant this good outside of Italy. The food is absolutely outstanding! I highly recommend the Parmigiana Di Melanzane, it is was absolutely delicious . We can also recommend the Linguine Aglio Olio Peperoncino E Gamberi, Penne Arrabbiate, Penne, Pappardelle Con Salsiccia, Penne Amatruciana, the Lasagna Classica Emillianna and also not forgetting the homemade Tiramisu of course! We will definitely be back soon again as there is so much choice on the menu and are looking forward to our next visit already!! Grazie...
