Dont understand some of these bad reviews, must be someone with a grudge. Reasonably priced drinks, im not gonna say they are the cheapest in chelmsford or even on this street but there are plenty higher around. Have been coming for about 15 years and really nothing has changed here, if you liked it before, your gonna like it now. If your new the landlord and landladys very welcoming. Has a good pool table, darts board and quiz machine. Never seen any drugs use in toilets, which are above average, cant say its never happened but thats the same for all pubs from chain to independents. The locals are never intimidating but its a pub not a wine bar so i cant promise you wont hear a rude word or ever see a drunk but its pretty good natured. Yes the one thing thats true is that occasionally this pub has been known to be closed early like around 9 but presumably if theres been no customers for a couple of hours its the landlords prerogative to have an early night. If you are allready in the pub ive never seen them close early. Not a bad place to watch sports too, not the biggest tvs or space but fair enough. Whats wrong with you people, as someone has said if you got nothing nice to say then DON'T say anything at all.. me and my partner went in there last weekend, the place was lively and had a great atmosphere, nice friendly bar staff, and a great band playing away. Lawrie and Trish were more than accomodating as we are new to the area and made us very welcome, and we had a great bit of banter. After looking at some of the comments on here, i have to disagree with them, the pub, toilets etc are clean, its a pleasant cozy little gem in Moulsham Street, These comments must be meant for another pub that i frequented recently but quickly left. Do NOT recommend!! I found the landlord to be very rude and definitely not a very nice person. I had the misfortune of having to deal with the landlords unfriendly nature. I complained to him about lipstick, which most definitely wasn’t my colour, on the glass. He accused me of lying and said that I just wanted another drink. I just wanted a clean glass for my drink. But that was too much trouble for him. Instead of changing the glass to a clean one like anyone else would do, the landlord made a scene accusing me of being a freeloader.
