We were looking around Chelmsford for a place to have lunch, and where we could sit down, with a comfortable atmosphere, but there don't seem to be that many options, or maybe we were looking in the wrong locations?
As we walked past the Turquoise we noticed the poster for the £15 (per person) lunch menu and decided that it seemed like a good deal. First impressions when we walked in were very good as it has a laid back and cozy atmosphere, with velvet seating and pretty looking lights and you're greeted with some laid back lounge music as well as a member of staff.
It was raining outside and the floor is very shiny, so I nearly slipped, so I think that it might be a good idea to get a bigger rug for the entrance area.
The lunch menu seemed to offer a good choice, so we ordered Borek rolls with feta cheese, mushrooms with a garlic cream sauce as a starter, and moussaka and a chicken shish as a main. The borek rolls were a little bit soft and could've probably been a bit crispier and the side salad was a little dissapointing too, and no vinaigrette, but the rolls tasted really nice anyway and we were impressed by the sweet chili sauce that came with the borek rolls, as it was really nicely sweet but also had an extra chili kick to it, but the star of the show were definitely the creamy mushrooms. Really delicious sauce and it might be tough to recreate but we'll give it a try : )
We then had the main dishes and it looked very appealing at first glance, I was only disappointed that I didn't check if there was an option where you could choose your sides, as I received Couscous, which I'm actually not a big fan of. So I suppose, it's probably best for everyone to check what the side dish is to the shish. But anyway, the chicken was very nice and tender and the moussaka tasted really nice and freshly made as well. I'm not sure if it was, but you can tell that it had proper minced beef in it. The portion sizes were adequate, and we were told that the portions are bigger if you order from the main menu, but to be honest, I don't think the portions need to be any bigger.
The service was also excellent and friendly and we promised to mention our new friend Ismail from Turkmenistan, who certainly is an amazing asset to the team and restaurant ; ) But seriously, it was a really nice stay and very friendly staff at the Turquoise and the overall experience was very laid back, nice lounge music, good relaxed atmosphere and great food. What more can you ask for. The price for the meal was also good value for money, maybe with a slightly updated salad option, but I guess it's often just garnish anyway. This and the slightly less crispy borek led me to only giving four stars instead of five for the food.
But yes, overall we...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at a Turquoise restaurant, chelmsford for dinner and we must say it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly by the friendly staff and instantly felt welcomed into their lovely establishment. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, with beautiful Turkish decor that transported me to the vibrant streets of Istanbul. Soft Turkish music played subtly in the background, adding to the overall enchanting atmosphere. Now, let's get to the food – it was truly a culinary adventure! The menu offered a wide array of authentic Turkish dishes, each bursting with flavor and showcasing the rich heritage of Turkish cuisine. We started with chicken liver and calamari which was perfectly seasoned and comforting. The mains were delicious , authentic and full of flavour. The portions were very generous and they were both accompanied by Turkish bulgar rice , couscous and a vinaigrette salad.
Finishing the dinner with complimentary Turkish Tea which is perfect in the cold weather.

Read moreWe decided to visit Turkish Kitchen as a post exam celebratory meal and we were left in awe. This restaurant offers an exquisite dining experience for those seeking the best traditional grilled food in town. From the moment you step foot in the picturesque restaurant, you’ll be greeted with warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere. Their menu boasts a wide variety of Turkish dishes each made with fresh and authentic ingredients. A wise man told us if the complementary Turkish bread is fluffy and soft - the mains will not disappoint you, and in fact he was right! For the mains we had ordered; Iskender- Char-grilled lean tender minced lamb skewers, served on toasted bread with special tomato sauce with yoghurt and drizzled with butter. Mixed Adana-Char-grilled minced lamb and chicken on skewer with herbs. The mains were delicious , authentic and full of flavour. The portions were very generous and they were both accompanied with Turkish bulgar rice and a vinaigrette salad. However ; I had ordered a strawberry mojito ‘ which lacked in all flavours- tasted bland and watered down. Nevertheless, the food and experience was immaculate. We will definitely be dining in again soon. Please follow our instagram @halal.diners for...
