First of all, the layout of the restaurant is quite reminiscent of an American diner, but they've also made it a bit like a London tube station. The issue with this is that the whole restaurant is like one massive echo-chamber and despite there being very few diners when myself and my partner ate here, it sounded like it was jam-packed; you could hear everyone's conversations echoing around the restaurant despite how quiet people were trying to be. This wasn't great when ordering or having your order called either as everyone has to borderline shout at each other to be heard.
Because of this our order ended up wrong, as despite ordering a bacon-cheese hotdog and "the same again", we got 1 bacon-cheese dog and one bacon dog without cheese. I'm not faulting the staff here at all, as they were friendly enough for our brief interaction of ordering, but I honestly can't imagine how bad it could get when it's really busy.
As for the prices, yes, Five Guys is far more expensive than the McDonalds or even Burger King that are a minute away down the high-street. Yes, the quality of the food was good and it arrived fairly fast, but the hotdogs were literally 2 mouthfuls for £7.15 and £7.65 a pop and although the fries were clearly fresh, the quantity you get for £4.95 (regular size) is lacking for the price. They were also really salty, even when compared to somewhere like McDonalds. Finally £3.85 for a drinks cup is not the worst, as you do get infinite refills. If you don't mind sharing with someone, like I did with my partner, you can cheat the system and get 1 cup to share and provided you get 4 full drinks (2 fills per person), it works out.
So, our total for 2 people was just under £30 and we really did not get a whole lot. For 4 people you're looking at over £60, especially if you each get your own drinks cup, which is expensive. Yes, the idea is to make the most of their "free toppings" and basically take absolutely everything on each item you order, but when the prices are that steep to begin with, you kind of feel the need to take all of the toppings anyway, or you're paying the same for far less.
I might go back again to see how the burgers stack-up as they are around the same price as the hotdogs, but Five Guys is certainly not somewhere I'm going to regularly be dining at, or ordering from, even if the...
Read moreYou always know you're in for a great quality burger at Five Guys, everytime I've been I've always been given a hot, juicy and fresh tasting burger. While there is no denying it's on the expensive side, there really is no beating that fresh burger taste you can't get at many other fast food burger places! I love the fact you can add as many or as little burger toppings as you like, and sauces are included in the price (as they should be!) The fries are so tasty, I only ordered a small but I could barely finish them they give out so many, definitely not complaining about that though! The milkshakes are also very good and definitely worth a try, even if they are almost £6 each! You could even have a bacon milkshake if you are daring enough, although I'd fully recommend the oreo! Staff were very friendly as well and although it does take a little longer to get your food than McDonald's for example, it is nice knowing your burger has been freshly made and being able to see it prepared infront of you! Overall, you're getting great food and a great service which is reflected in the price tag, but it is definitely worth a try if you haven't...
Read moreMy first visit to a Five Guys. The server was helpful when I said this is my first time. Went through the menu and the options with the 15 'free' toppings. I'd have preferred my meal and drink all came at the same time as drink was first then 7mins later the food. The meat in the burger was clearly different to other burger joints and very nice with a noticeable beef taste and less pulped texture. Usual picture doesn't fit the reality though; not enough salad added. The fries were very nice, if a little too salty, and plenty of them; apparently the potatoes were from Cheshire and skins left on. The strawberry milkshake was meh. Not the strongest flavour and it had the 99 flavour you get from the ice cream van, which I like but would have thought the flavouring should have over-powered that. Not too thick but still not a 'milkshake', ie milk and flavouring. The whipped cream on top was a treat at the end. I wouldn't rush back, especially...
