Middletons Chelmsford — Restaurant in Chelmsford

2024 update: It's been a few years since I last are here, and the fact that they have weathered the storm of the pandemic, indicates the food quality, service and price are all off a high enough standard to retain customers.

I went on a Friday night, and you'll be best served if you book in advance as in addition to the standard menu, off some lovely choices, they offer a 90 minute unlimited steak and chips experience.

Well I had to try this.

Our server for the evening was attentive from the off, even though one of our party was running a little late.

A nice selection of drinks were available, including an unlimited wine for an additional fee.

When our steaks arrived they were well presented and I upgraded to the posh loaded fries. The combination of parmesan, trifle and rosemary was very rich and delightful to eat.

The streaks were cooked medium rare, and presented our cut making them very tender to eat. I could but work out what the cut was, but it was delicious from first to last forkful.

I then had another 4 round of the steak and each arrived quickly and grilled to the same level of perfection.

Suffice to say there was no room for dessert as the food was very filling, on fact I turned down more if the fantastic bit and crunchy fries as it was too much for me.

Nothing appeared to be too much trouble and our server really maintained a great balance between attentive and privacy, something that cannot be underestimated in my opinion, I just hope she gets a bonus as a great representative for their brand.

In Sunday a great meal for around £45 with drinks, in a well decorated and maintained location at the end of the high street.

I'll be back, but won't leave it so long next time.

Fantastic food, I had the 22Oz porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection. This restaurant will undoubtedly become a key place to visit in Chelmsford...

Edit:Had to lower the review from a 5 star, to a 3 star.

Food was still absolutely lovely but the service was extremely poor, Got seated straight away (Wasn't busy), and got our drinks ordered instantly. Took about 5 mins till we ordered our meals.

The food took about 30-40 minutes, even though it wasn't busy (about 5 tables full). After the meal, one waitress half cleared our table. Then went off and started chatting, it took another 25 minutes to get the dessert menu, the gentleman who was also on waiter duty had to clear the rest of our table about 10 minutes after that because the waitress never came back to finish, it then took another 10 minutes to get to order a dessert, by which time we wanted to leave.

There was also another table left uncleared 40 minutes before we left, and was still uncleared after we left as well.

Was disappointed with the service, as I have been here 4 times now and it was exceptional each time. Would recommend for the food, but expect a wait even on non-busy days.

Also was weirdly loud for a 1/3 full restaurant, not a bad thing just felt weird. Maybe the music is too loud, I don't really know. Just the atmosphere felt off.

Lovely service, very friendly

Portions were good, could have done with a couple extra mushrooms with the steak meals.

Went with family, and we had the Prime Surf and Turf, Steak Grill, and the Middletons grill. All with some extra sides (which were very nice). Steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered them, Lobster was delicious, Couldn't fault the food honestly, acouple extra onion rings on the Middletons Grill would have been nice too, but overall a really tasty meal and would highly recommend. Will definitely be coming...

So here is a update after the very poor experience we had on my 60th birthday last September 2019. After speaking with kirstie guest relations manager.. We decided to give the restaurant another try.. So we went this September. On a Sunday again at around the same time as last year. I must be honest considering the times we are going through I was very impressed. The service was very very good and helpful. We had to down load the menu onto are phones prior to ordering are meals but it was so simple. And made us all feel reassured that middletons were takeing care and makeing us feel safe. Big tick. 👍👍👍 The starters came and were very tasty. The mains. My wife had the sirloin again. But this time it was cooked to perfection and not at all dry... I and my daughter both had the t Bone rare. Mist properly the best steak I had all year.. Cooked again to perfection full of taste. The sides we ordered were all cooked fresh and tasted very good.. All in all a turn around on are last vist.. Very pleasant experience very good service. And very tasty food. At not a bad price. Also we felt comfortable and safe in this restaurant. And the toilets were spotless.... And now woukd again recommend this restaurant to all you out there... Thank you. Kirstie for contacting me after my last review.
