Whittle Taps — Restaurant in Cheltenham

Went there recently with a group of friends. Didn't try the food, so can't say, but those served on the other tables looked appetising.

Choice of ale was a bit limited, but "Rudolph" was actually a really nice one. Service was fine too I thought.

My only complaint was that the music was so so loud that one couldn't even speak to the person sitting right next to them. A bit of music can be soothing in a restaurant/pub like this where people come to have a social gathering, a bit louder would be fine too, but here it was so loud it was uncomfortable. I lost my voice coz I had to scream to talk to people. We could've stayed there longer, but everyone was happy to move out bcoz of the uncomfortably loud music.

When you have a manger who doesn't care, why would any of the staff? We had an average meal with a dirty table and cutlery. The waitress was slow but friendly. All was ok until she spilled my meal on the table and then asked " do you want to scrape it back in or shall I"!!!! Manager didn't return my calls as promised, when I got hold of him he slagged off his own staff to me which was really awkward and said he would come back to me once he had spoken to her. He never even bothered to call me back. I gave him the opportunity to rectify what was awful service ( all I wanted was a genuine apology ) before writing a review but his level of professionalism was so low I got the impression he really didn't care. Staff extremely helpful. Some items that we ordered from the menu were not available, which we felt was understandable in the current circumstances. We were very pleased with how the staff dealt with this. They apologized and explained the situation and offered to make a substitute. We appreciated that they made an effort and didn't just say that the items were unavailable. I work in retail and understand that sometimes you are unable to provide exactly what a customer asks for but if you show that you actually care, explain the situation and offer alternatives that more than makes up for it.
