This was my first time dining at Chesters ......... and it will be my last. We were told we had the table for an hour upon arrival. Fair enough, I thought. 2 minutes after we'd sat down we were asked what we wanted to order. Our poor aunt had barely enough time to see the menu let alone peruse the options.
I asked for an OAP meal. This caused some consternation from the waitress who asked her colleague, I assume, whether or not they were still serving the OAP menu. I had already checked the time and knew there was still 8 minutes of the serving window available for this menu.
My aunt seemed grateful that there was an OAP option and chose from the same. While the time ticked away as we waited for our food to appear I began to wonder if the allotted hour started from our first bite as a quarter of the time had already elapsed.
When the food did appear, it was fresh and delicious...... when we eventually got cutlery to eat it with. However, we had to ask for condiments and were not offered any sauces.
When we had finished our meal my aunt suggested a dessert. I hurriedly checked the time and as it was only 5.30pm I thought we'd plenty of time to choose and finish our dessert before our time was up.
We waited, and waited but not only had we not been asked if our meal was OK part way through dining but we seemed to have been abandoned at our table with our dirty plates. When a waitress finally appeared to ask if we'd finished, my aunt asked if we could have dessert. The waitress said she needed our table for the next booking in 15 minutes so we could have ice cream but nothing hot. We agreed.
Imagine my surprise, nay, horror when the waitress reappeared to ask us to vacate the table as the next party of diners had already been waiting for 5 minutes. I was flabbergasted. Had the waitress been as efficient in clearing away our first course platters as she had been to take our initial order, we'd have had plenty of time to finish our desserts and leave before being "pushed out".
Feeling I had no option, I got my walking aid, slowly got up from my seat and made my way, with my ice cream sundae, to the bar area which had been indicated the place to finish my dessert. My husband had to polish off my aunt's dessert as she could not manage to get over to the bar, with her 3 wheel walker, & ice cream sundae.
I have never been treated so shabbily in a restaurant. I rarely leave the house nowadays, and this was the first time I'd been out for a meal since lockdown. Sad to say, it was overall a...
Read moreI travelled from newcastle with my patnerand her parents travelled from coventry and chose this resturant to have our meal on thursday 18 augist 22 Positves very clean place and the steak and fish option tasted great. Negatives. There was a large group 19 people in the resturant who was making a lot of noise whilst awaiting thier food .. we found it difficult to hold a conversation whilst we waited for food and ate food . The waitress came over asked if our food was ok i said food great but there is too much noise from the party of elderly people .. the waitress said i agree with you but took plates away and did nothing she did not ask them to try lower noise To be honest the chips were a little pale and could of done with a few mins more ..
Would i go back again only alas no .. good food but not outstanding , not a place to go if you want a quiet family meal in a resturant , if i was having a pub meal it would be accepticable there . I suggest next time you have a larger party , you consider other people in restuant and ask them to lower noise or block book the restuant and advise all.people coming on that there is a group party in who maybe little loud
Thank you for your reply .. i accept you answer on chips and new potatoes , alas you reply about the group party not factual correct , we moved our selfs futher away , we was not asked if we would like to move to a quieter area by your staff, And eventually we choose again to move to front of Resturant to find quieter place but still the noise radiated forward .. so the bottom line is accepticable for busy loud pub but not dor a quality testurant which you...
Read moreHad the Admirals platter at £35 to share between 2 people, was disappointed in portion size of chips as looking at other table food it seemed that those who ordered individual fish and chips or any other meal git double or even more. Also, no salad came with, yet all other meals being served had salad. Wine very expensive £6.50 for a 250ml glass of sparkling worst that most pubs, I've actually had bigger fish from other chippies such as North Sea fish bar and one on chatsworth Road. This was my first visit from last time, which was 4 years ago, and I don't think I will be back for a good while on the back of this experience. The restaurant environment is very sterile in my opinion and if full would be noisy as there are no soft furnishings to damper or absord the noise. All in all, I was a bit disappointed considering the price and would have probably been served larger individual portions at takeaway side, but I guess. Also, I should have taken my own advice and not had the haddock as uts always skin left on , cod is always the way to go. Also forgot no peas to go with the...
