Decided to try out Woodheads today with my mum, sister and nephew. When we entered the cafe I was immediately disappointed with how shabby it looked. The tables were covered with wipeable table cloths and disposable paper table cloths and the whole place needed a good clean and a lick of paint. When we asked where we could put my nephews buggy a surly woman behind the counter said 'I suppose you can leave it there' and gestured to the spot we were standing in. We then headed upstairs (stairs carpet needs refitting/replacing) and into the larger seating area. The initial impression was of a work canteen, a lot of miss matched tables and chairs and the wipeable table clothes covered with paper table cloths. We chose a table near the window but we were soon put off by the splotches of food on the disposable table cloths and the very stained fabric on the chairs. We then decided that we didn't fancy having a treat of coffee and cake here and proceeded to leave. As we were heading out the door the woman behind the counter audibly mumbled 'not good enough for you then'. Which I feel is totally unacceptable behaviour and not the best way to find out why your large town centre cafe is virtually empty on a sunny Friday mid morning. So no, Woodheads is not 'good enough for me' you need to redecorate, clean and teach your staff some manners before it will be 'good enough'. Surely the place should be trying to be the best and not just...
Read moreThis cafĂ© has been around a long time and its old-style look and feel may mean it gets overlooked amongst all the established chains and trendy up-and-coming food and drink places in Chesterfield. However, despite its appearance, a visit here is a treat â especially for someone like me who requires a gluten free diet. Having âgluten free breakfastâ on the menu is such a lovely thing to see, alongside options for other GF meals. Breakfast is made up of bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, hash brown, egg and two slices of toast with two foil-wrapped butter packs. I like to have something sweet afterwards, so I sometimes ask for a pot of marmalade to spread on one of the slices. The good quality food is always served fresh with enough on the plate and, with a squint of the eye, looks not too different to a gluten containing breakfast! The service is friendly, welcoming and the place is deserving of further visits whenever Iâm in town. If you are coeliac or need to avoid gluten, itâs good to know that Woodheadâs make the effort to provide gluten free dishes whilst running a full âstandardâ menu. Their ability to produce meals in their relatively small kitchen whilst observing allergens in their ingredients demonstrates knowledgeable staff, giving me confidence to call in at any time (did I mention their breakfasts are served...
Read moreI've been here 2/3 times now, but not been for at least 18mths, until today. The whole place is scruffy and dirty definitely needs a deep clean, the downstairs smelt like vomit when walking through the door. The counter upstairs was absolutely filthy & so were the sides were some foods were being prepared, the till drawer was wedged shut with a plate & looked like it was full of bacteria same as everywhere else that's visible, the coffee machine was disgusting too. There was 2 cleaning detergents on the side of this machine as well ( that's DEFINITELY A NO NO)These products SHOULD be kept in a cleaning cupboard (if there is one that is)looking how dirty this place is. No gloves or nets was worn by staff, especially the guy with the long beard, one member of staff had an apron on but to my amazement she had a T shirt over the top of it ... I think the owner of this cafe needs to take a good look around to see that these issues need...
