Lovely old pub, a mixture of traditional and modern interior. Located just a short stroll from the Cathedral in West Street where the old West Gate to the City stood, with very easy access to the nearby City Walls. Very welcoming and homely front bar, spacious back bar and lovely beer garden. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Good selection of beers; Harveys Best from Lewes is an ever-present favourite accompanied by several regularly changing guest beers on cask, a number of of keg bitter, lager and cider options available too. Very good food served here too, at extremely reasonable prices. Reputedly haunted by a Roman Centurion, but l haven't met him yet! Highly recommended.

I’m a Chichester born boy, who grew up in a house in Westgate so this pub is sort of in my dna. Not been into it for something like 25 years before last week! Everything (landlord, decor, pub name) has changed but the basic layout has changed. It’s still has fed homely feel it always had. It’s smarter inside than it was. It’s a really nice English pub! Great location close to the Cathedral and the absolute gem of a park ‘The Bishops Palace Gardens’ - if you are a visitor to Chichester this is a great local pub to visit

Fabulous pub that we visited every night while we stay in Chichester while visiting the GoodWood festival of Speed. Good real ale, fantastic outside large terrace where I enjoyed a fine cigar. Also good solid bar food. Fantastic tasting cod and chips which was so good I ordered 3 nights on the run! In all a fabulous pub with great large outside beer terrace (good larger covered area) which we will definitely be visiting again when we go to GoodWood!

Plenty of Better Options in Chichester

Pros: The room was decorated ok and was somewhat clean. The location is convenient.

Cons: The room was very dusty. As it's an old pub with uncarpeted bedrooms, sound travels incredibly easily, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The biggest drawback, however, was the manager's attitude. He was exceptionally rude and unwelcoming, making it clear he has no interest in his job or his customers. His demeanor really dampened what was supposed to be an enjoyable trip. The price is exorbitant for what is offered. Even the manager admitted he wouldn't be happy paying the rates he charges. Overall, there are plenty of better places to stay in Chichester. I would only recommend this place if there were literally no other options available. For a more comfortable, cleaner, and better-value stay, consider nearby the Trents or the local...

We recently had a two night stay here. We had a great time and will definitely return. On arrival we were greeted by Elliot, he told us what we needed to know and helped us with our bags. It is clear that Elliot is in exactly the right industry. He was a joy to be around and made everyone feel welcome. The room was quiet, lovely, warm and clean. The food was excellent. It was nice to see menus which had traditional pub food done very well by the lovely Jackie. I would recommend a visit to the Cathedral and the Canal for a boat trip, both excellent in learning more about the area. We visited on a night with a Folk Music Club were meeting. We had never been to such an event, however, we were made to feel very welcome and included by some of the members and the main act was an astonishingly talented young man. Thanks again to Elliot and Nick for an...

I went to this pub for quiet evening drink

After visiting a week ago no problems This evening I visited and followed the sign in to wait to be served Two of us I explained to the elderly man at the bar that we would like to have 9ne drink in the garden and that I was not wearing a mask as I was exempt. To with he looked at me like I was a price of rubbish and said we don't except exemptions! I didn't know were to look i was so embarrassed. I said since when was it a not allowed NO SIGNS ANYWHERE. My 0ae5nee explained that I was asthmatic.

He said I don't see why you can't put a mask on for 5 mins. I started going into a panic attack. Feeling chest pain. We were totally humiliated and left. Outrageous behaviour. All he had to do was ask if I wouldn't mind But to speak to us this way was a disgrace. We will not be going there...
