Crate & Apple Pub — Restaurant in Chichester

Not a very good experience. On arrival we were told we might have to wait a little bit longer than usual because they had a wedding. After 2 minutes we overheard another waiter telling the neighbouring table the wait would be an hour which is far more than we expected. After patiently waiting over the hour we gently asked where was our food. The waitress was very apologetic but reminded us that we were told at arrival of the delay, like if that would have made any difference. We booked a family table for 7 pm and clearly told we had a 7 years old child. They could have warned us at booking stage of the wedding and possible delay. Knowing it at arrival did not really help us as it was too late for us to book somewhere else. When the food finally arrived we were disappointed to find out that the burger on the child menu was a thick very rich burger more appropriate for an adult than a child. Where is the point of a child menu if the food is the same of the normal menu? As a matter of fact our daughter left it there. For our trouble we got a free starter and I got a free beer which, in my view, was ok but they could have discounted the burger which was left same as it arrive. I am not mentioning the food in general as this is very subjective. I liked my steak but my wife did not like the chips (too greasy). My recommendations? Review your children menu and if you cannot cope don't take too many reservations, customers...

Our wedding was postponed in May due to Covid -19. We rebooked for 1st September but had to radically change our plans. We were only able to have 10 adult guests present at the ceremony and due to restrictions on wedding receptions we had to be very creative.

Lisa and her team were amazing. We were able to book a socially distanced table for all 10 guests, our menu choices were taken in advance meaning all guests chose their own meals. Lisa was fantastic at communicating and she met every request I had with patience and nothing was too much trouble.

Lisa decorated the tables on the day and took all the stress away from me having to organise this on my big day.

The food was simply stunning and the staff were great and so responsive. They had a lovely balance of being attentive when needed but also leaving our guests to enjoy the day.

I really can not recommend the Crate & Apple more highly, and the team were just incredible.

We chose this lovely pub after having left a horrible one in West Wittering. The Crate & Apple's landlord was welcoming and friendly, as was the girl behind the bar. The interior decor was modern and lovely and there is a neat, enclosed garden with plenty of gorgeous greenery. A fabulous gin menu was on offer , alongside a good selection of wines. I didn't notice the beer selection, as neither of us had beers. We ate here too, not having starters, but my husband had the fish and chips, which he said was delicious. I had the pan fried hake, wrapped in pancetta, served with a spring onion potato cake served with a samphire creamy sauce...... absolutely gorgeous, beautiful white fish, cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! Too full for dessert unfortunately, but we hope to return on our next visit to beautiful Sussex. A lovely pub with great food, drinks selection and friendly staff. The perfect combination and a really enjoyable end to a relaxing day spent on the beach in nearby...
