let down by poor service venue was lovely but the place is really let down by the standard of staff. there was seemingly only one man working at the front who was rude, unprofessional and unapologetic; most of our issues really lay with him. one of our party has a gluten allergy and when we asked what on the menu was gluten-free he told us that anything that was vegan or vegetarian was gluten-free which we thought was surprising since that wasn't stated on the menu and, if we had believed him, we would've assumed that the breaded mushrooms or macaroni cheese were gluten-free (which they were not!) luckily we decided to look at the menu online which proved our suspicions correct, most of the things on the menu that was vegetarian/vegan were not gluten-free meaning had she trusted the waiter (like she should be able to do!) she could've eaten something that could've potentially hospitalised her. Honestly at this point, we should've left but we were all so hungry we decided to give it a go anyway. When we placed our order we ordered 2 portions of Mexican Nachos and wished to upgrade them to add spicy pulled pork, when we told the waiter this he did not say anything but then when he brought out the nachos without the pork on them and we questioned him on this he said that the Mexican Nachos do not come with pork and if we were to add pork to them they'd "no longer be vegan", I don't know what this had to do with anything as none of us was vegan. He also said that the pork was a mistake on the menu, if this is the case then fine but TELL THE CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY TRY TO ORDER THE PORK!! In the end, we were refunded for one of the portions of nachos, which we incredibly poor quality and whilst we had initially intended to get a dessert (as we had heard great things about the desserts!) we decided to take our business elsewhere, not wanting to give money to a business with such a low standard of...
Read moreVisited 1pm Saturday 6th April with my sister and boyfriend, we were staying nearby for a family wedding and had tried to book dinner for 9 of us on the Friday night but they weren’t able to take our booking.. thankfully!
We ordered 2 basic meals, scampi and a chicken kebab, eventually, after asking twice where the meals were and being told “it’s ok don’t worry” the meals arrived, which was over an hour after ordering.
(Note: About 30 minutes after we had ordered, my niece and nephew joined us and had ordered and eaten their food before ours was even served.)
The kebab was cold and the tartare sauce had a small curly dark hair in it! I discretely told the barman who said “that’s weird the chef has blue hair so I’m not sure where that’s come from”. He offered a replacement meal I said I just didn’t want the tartare sauce as I had already waited an hour for meal. My boyfriend then called him over and told him his kebab was cold and he eventually apologised and gave us a refund for our meals, on the condition he took the meals away, ie “If you give me your food I’ll give you your money back”. My boyfriend had been really sick all night and I was trying to tempt him to eat something, however he had to leave the place after only eating a few lukewarm fries.
Apart from the overpriced substandard food, and the extremely poor customer service, the venue was really disappointing. The building is a lovely old church and could be an absolute goldmine but there was literally no atmosphere and the decor is really lacklustre. Also there was no toilet paper in the ladies which is pretty unacceptable considering it was early afternoon and was hardly anyone in the place, my sister also got stuck in the toilet cubicle!!
Very very disappointing experience all round, especially as we had found what looked like a great venue online and were really looking forward to...
Read moreReally disappointing experience. My partner, toddler son and I decided to treat ourselves to something a bit more expensive than 'Spoons for lunch.
We arrived to an almost empty pub, with only 2 or 3 other tables in use.
The one highchair available didn't have any safety straps.
Meat free options severely limited (one burger, one salad, a nacho side).
We ordered a soya burger, a meat burger, and vegetarian sausages, chips and beans for the kid's meal, along with one pint of beer and a pint of Pepsi.
The total was around £41.00 - with the burger meals costing just under £12 each.
We sat for 35 minutes in the almost empty pub until the food arrived. I queried whether the sausages in the kid's meal were vegetarian and was assured they were. I asked they double checked as I was unconvinced and sure enough they'd given us meat.
Had to ask for cutlery, had to ask for sauces, had to ask for napkins. Another table had to ask the bar twice during our visit to supply/top up various condiments.
No salad in either of the burgers (which came out lukewarm), my partner didn't enjoy his burger and said it tasted cheap. Another 10 minutes for the kid's meal to be rectified.
The food was OK. Certainly not worth the price.
Overall disappointing experience. We ate the food because we were hungry. Could've paid half the price in 'Spoons and it would've been a tastier meal with better service.
Would not...
