Our waitress Alex was amazing she was kind, polite and very professional. We were a party of 4 and sat outside upstairs on a tall table for bottomless brunch, it was very windy and we asked to be moved inside which we were told as soon as a table opened up we would be moved. Within 10/20 mins we were moved inside. We had a few little niggles which were immediately resolved by Natalie the manager who again was extremely professional and very helpful, Natalie moved us downstairs and Candice became our new waitress again kind, polite and very professional. It is the first time I have had a bottomless brunch at Turtle Bay and I have to say these 3 ladies made our experience one to remember they are a credit to the business and always smiling. If I have one word of advice it would be to put an extra waitress on upstairs on a busy weekend so you have 3, one outside and 2 inside and 2 bar staff as it’s a lot for 2 people to cope with even though they did their absolute best. We shall return as we had a fabulous time thank you Alex, Natalie...
Read moreI don't think the overall rating 4.8 of this place is deserved! I doubt I'd be returning and I don't recommend it to others.
Good features of the place: excellent position on the river promenade and good view onto the Durham Cathedral from some tables. Interesting design idea, Carribean in the middle of rainy greyness! Friendly service, when they have time for you.
Not good: The food was actually salty and spicy without measure (I normally like spicy, but this was just a few spoons of just pepper, no aroma). Cocktails... They don't even look good if you actually pay close attention. Are very sugary (berry punch less so). Also the owners most certainly save on alcohol. It might be a good thing, maybe, for some, if you plan to pay whatever, look seemingly cool and don't get drunk (still can, just buy more?). However, I would just prefer to know on what I spend £10.
The place gets extra crowded, which is not a bad thing, but makes me wonder -why?
If you go, know you can use 2 for 1 offer on cocktails (but it...
Read moreThe food was really tasty- had the chilli cheese roti to start, then the coconut fried chicken with Mac n cheese as my main. Had two for one zombie cocktails. Initially, when we were seated, no one else was around us, which, in covid times, was quite reassuring, but then two large families came and were were seated either side of us, one with a particularly loud child, too. We were kind of boxed in, in a corner, and it was quite hard for staff to even reach our table, without having to squeeze behind other diners. Without even asking, one of the staff came over and basically said he realised we were quite boxed in and would we like to be reseated to another table, on the upper level, at the back. We gladly accepted this offer, as we did feel a little boxed in, and we had more space and it was a little quieter. Will definitely be back. Service was fantastic and clearly very conscientious. Enjoyed the decor and the food was excellent. Value for money was...
