An OK pub, but on the pricier side for what it is.

Atmosphere was a bit lacking. OK, entered in on a Monday night - it’s never going to be buzzing. But there was a few punters nipping in and out.

Now I like a boozer where it’s comfortable, and that starts with the staff. Being honest, the staff on this night weren’t the most approachable in all honesty. A pub it supposed to have the bar propped with punters, but this was somewhat shunned slightly.

A few basic simple requests were made by other punters that seemed like the largest challenges known to mankind for the staff at that point.

Drinks quality was OK. Guinness was poured appropriately which is often overlooked in many places, so Kudos for that.

I think this place serves food up to a point, but not late on, so it’s more of a boozer at night than a chain ‘pubstaurant’ (yeah, I made it up. Let’s see if it catches on). Footy was on several tellies, there’s a bandit right in the middle of the ground floor. Maybe if it went back to a more traditional boozer after 8pm it would feel more like a...

Went there yesterday for Sunday lunch visiting the area for a week. Got there at about half two. Welcomed at the bar with "If you want food it with be over an hour's wait." Looking round the place looked daily empty so l enquired as to why? Because all our food is cooked fresh was the abrupt reply. Ok fair enough I thought so l ordered a Sunday Roast. No Roasts left was the reply despite clearly stating on the menu Roasts served all day. Ok Fish and chips please No fish and chips either was the sharp reply. No apologies or anything By this time I was starting to get anoyed. Me and my family just wanted something to eat this young lass clearly did not want to serve us. Me and my wife and family walked out disgusted went just outside the market place and found a pub got everything we wanted plus puddings and drinks all for a less less cash. It was first class and the staff were warm and friendly. What a difference you need to train your staff in manners and alter your Sunday menu's. Durham is a lovely place but your pub will not get...

Came for a pint and some food after work, grabbed a beer and a menu from the guy behind the bar. Went outside and ordered food and another drink to my table using the app, then was a little mystified when nothing arrived for 45 minutes.

The barman was outside collecting empties so I asked what was occurring. He was pretty mortified because the orders on the app hadn't been checked but immediately set about putting it right, bringing me my beer right over. Got my order within 10 minutes and a free pint chucked in as an apology.

Mistakes happen and things go wrong but it's about how you fix them and I can't fault the staff for their reaction, with the manager coming over to apologise in addition to the barman. The food was decent pub grub and the pub itself is really nice. Can't go 5 stars due to the food hoohah but I'll definitely give the place another go because the customer service...

Called in for food and a drink Monday afternoon. It was fairly quiet. Nice convenient location next to the indoor market. The food was nice. The pub is quaint and oldie worldie with unusual music playing. The ladies toilet were down steps which were slightly difficult to get to. Bar staff were helpful and friendly. Used blue light card so it wasn't as expensive. My steak and ale pie was filling with the mash. My daughter loved her steak although it didn't look too much for the money and was supposed to be medium rare. All in all a lovely stop off though in the middle of a day out in Durham.

Bought a round of 4 drinks. Mine was an IPA which was warm. I had a couple of gulps but decided to take it back. I went to the bar and informed the Manager that the IPA didn’t taste right as it was warm and he informed me that, that’s the temperature it should be served!. I ask to change to Guinness and he proceeded to pour the Guinness and then ask for payment. I said I wanted a refund on the IPA to which he said I’d drank too much to warrant a refund. So I took a picture of the drink and said I would complain, as a result the Manger refused to serve me at all! Very poor customer service.

Had good memories of this place from a long time back, but overall this return visit was a little disappointing. It was busy for a Thursday afternoon and maybe that caught them out because the queue at the bar was silly with only one person serving half the time. Had a Katsu curry chicken burger that was quite nice but the selection of ales available was disappointing and limited. I don't recall the place being a Greene King pub last time I was there but I could be mistaken. Overall it wasn't a terrible experiment, but it could have been a lot better.
