Artisan Coffee Leith — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Coffee and cake break at Artisan Coffee, Leith Walk because we'd heard about this corner café.

Plenty of seating outside on a wide pavement area bathed in sunlight. Inside seating a bit cramped, small tables squashed together. The counter is at the front showing a wide variety of inviting looking cakes, pastries and filled rolls.

We chose our standard bearer Flat Whites which were as good as anywhere else in the area. Nice layer of dark creamy froth, espresso flavour coming through. Hit the right notes.

We shared a small cake which was a mixture of some dried fruit and oats. After the first taste, I left my share. There is a lot of exciting cake shops along this stretch of Leith Walk so competition is high.

Would we go again? For the coffee; an instant yes. We may try another cake or just sit on the pavement doing a bit of...

Really nicely decorated wee place with lovely staff. Prices are a bit expensive for the volume of coffee but the ingredients probably justify it.

Only negative is that the staff don't seem to have been trained on how to make coffee properly. If you pack the coffee into the portafilter and let it sit in the grouphead while you foam the milk, the coffee burns. If you pour the shot into the cup before you've steamed the milk, the shot turns bitter (you've got about 8 seconds to add the milk before the shot turns). It's a shame because you guys are lovely but if I'm spending over 6 quid for two (fairly small) coffees I want to see that they're being made with care! The Coffee is amazing and the staff are too! Always welcomed and made to feel at home. Great place to chill with friends and loved ones or just take your book or laptop. Only criticism is the place could do with a bit of TLC, toilet needs attention and owners should defo refurbish the layout. Staff don't seem to have enough space behind the counter but I'm sure that could be fixed. Staff Mike, Vivi, Marek, Dylan, Monica, Kate, and Nagesh are all amazing, always accommodating and that and the coffee is why I always go there for my coffee fix. As I said though, owners could do with putting some love and investment into keeping it the best place in leith walk to go...
