Part of the same owned Swedish group (AKA Anna & Mike) of Sofis, Joseph Pearces & Hemma, and opened second in line after the now defunct Boda Bar, Victoria Bar offers what Boda originally offered but in a bigger and more likeable and colourful venue. Went last night with a group of friends at around 8:30pm, live music with a very good DJ playing some Charleston-esque & Jazz Fusion tracks with gusto. Even though my friends indulged in Jäger bombs, Japanese Asahi lager, long vodkas & red wine I stick to a very affordable £ 2.50 a 500 ml bottle Erdinger Alcohol-Free beer (don't ask me why) The staff behind the bar were friendly and professional although sometimes they get a bit over distracted with their very own Spotify tunes software, problem quickly sorted as soon as DJ started the scratch session. Victoria is a great place to meet your friends as they can accommodate medium to large groups of people and bookings are taken if required too. Usually there is a cheerful and cosmopolitan atmosphere (last night there was a big & lively group of Spaniards) that gives the place an extra edge over its Leith Walk pub competitors. Prices are affordable depending of what you are going for and pints of lager are still cheaper than £ 4 (Asahi lager costs £ 3.50)
Vicroria is a great place to relax for a mid-afternoon coffee and a book as its luminous interiors (if you are sitting close to those massive windows) give you that living - room - homie feeling for a chill-out session. Of course, WiFi is available so you can keep track of what's going on with the rest of the world. All in all a positive experience and like Arnie said...
Read moreI like this place for the fact that I can be by myself in a really nice & cosy bar. During the day they are a small haven away from the busy Leith Walk. You can make yourself at home in a window seat, prop up some pillows and open a book (or Angry Birds..) and voila you are away.
The places I frequent most often (like Sofi's, and Joseph Pearce) will always have people I know and things get sociable - it'll be rude not to. Not so here. I use this as my sanctuary, sure I see familiar faces, but I come here to be with myself and my thoughts (and that works most of the time). I manage to while away many hours.
With a large selection of craft beers & whiskies I have no problem to select and enjoy my...
Read moreJust like most of the 5 Swedish-owned bars in this part of town, Victoria looks a bit like someone's sitting room, and this is definitely a good thing. Cosy window seats, little tables spread around, and more space at the back than you'd think. Oh, and there's a crocodile. Obviously. Like the other places owned by the same people, Victoria puts on lots of events, such as the language cafe on Mondays. It's not massively Swedish most of the time, but at Christmas they...
