Fantastic coffee, delicious cakes, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The staff here really know their coffee — it’s clear they’re passionate and proud of what they do, and it seems like a genuinely happy place to work.

Prices are very fair, especially considering the care they put into sourcing high-quality beans. They even have info cards about each coffee, which I love. There’s always their house blend, Janszoon, on offer. Janszoon offers a well-rounded cup of coffee. It is a dependable and enjoyable everyday beverage. You can even pick it up at Margiotta, which is super convenient.

The single origins are what I really enjoy though. I always go for a single origin latte to explore the variety of amazing beans they offer — they also sell these to take home. Alongside espresso drinks, they also do batch brew, filter, matcha, and a great range of teas.

Recently, one of the brilliant team members helped me out by giving me a box to send off my coffee machine for repairs — just another example of their above-and-beyond service. I’ve been visiting more often while it’s away, and even when it’s back, I know I’ll be coming here for many more years.

Also just learned they can fill my container with beans — it’s cheaper and better for the planet. Definitely taking advantage of that from now on!

Not very friendly! As soon as I walked in I got asked to wait outside in quite an abrupt manner. No hello, smile or friendly greeting. I quickly looked around (with my eyes) at the tables for a few seconds to see if I could see my friend. I was once again told to wait outside - there was 3 people seated and one lady waiting for her takeaway so hardly that busy. When I said I was just seeing if I could see my friend the women was quite rude. On the plus side I had got the wrong store as I really didn't want to spend my money here. Would definitely not return. Way to greet anyone let alone a heavily pregnant lady.

Whilst the coffee, food and expertise offered here is among Edinburgh’s best (in terms of coffee shops), the decor and atmosphere is not the best.

The benches/stools they offer for seating feels very uncomfortable and flimsy, and there’s limited table space.

They also do not offer WiFi, and I couldn’t get any phone reception inside.

The coffee me and my friend got was wonderful, and obviously expertly made, however both the flat white and pour over were served sans saucer, and the pour over itself just came in a cup - no tray or pot.
