We picked Bistro Coco for a celebratory date night, and it could not have been a better choice. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was so cozy and elegant – ideal for a romantic evening.
The meal started with a fun surprise: some creative amuse bouches to kick things off. And then came the soft, warm sunflower seed bread with perfectly salted butter. Simple, but so satisfying.
For starters, we shared two dishes. First, the smoked Applewood cheddar raviolo – it was creamy, decadent, and felt like a warm hug in food form. Then, we had the heritage tomato tarte, which was bursting with fresh, summery flavours. The combination of balsamic, mustard, basil and mozzarella chantilly made every bite vibrant and delicious.
For the main course, we shared a chateaubriand for two. It was cooked to perfection – juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. The truffle and parmesan fries were a great indulgent side, and the market vegetables and ratatouille balanced everything out well. We also got garlic butter and peppercorn sauce, which were both amazing with the steak.
We ended the meal with a strawberry tart paired with an incredible strawberry sorbet from Over Langshaw farm (always a favourite). It was light, refreshing, and packed with flavor – the perfect summery finish.
We also enjoyed two lovely wines throughout the meal – a fruity French Côtes du Rhône and a bolder Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. Both were great choices and paired perfectly with the food.
A special shoutout to Laura, our lovely French host, who was absolutely fantastic. She was so friendly and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and really adding to the experience.
Overall, Bistro Coco is a gem for a special occasion or just a cozy date night. We’ll...
Read moreWe have dined here a few times after reading the amazing reviews on Google. A little bit suspicious when a place has a perfect 5-star reputation, we have been consistently delighted to find that this place exceeds our expectations. The service is top notch - so friendly, personable, and with a beautiful demeanour (they make us feel so very special every time we dine). The food, OMG, the food - SOOO GOOD! If you have traveled to France and tasted good food there, then this is the place where you will find that food in Edinburgh. We’ve had lamb and braised ox cheek. Succulent and juicy ox cheek along with the most tender lamb. Another time, we had the seafood board and delicious cafe gourmand for afters (so good!). I am a bit reluctant to leave such a glowing review as this is our favourite French restaurant (the owners are from the beautiful Marseille) and this place will take off in a big way- but do so as the professionals here deserve for others to know about the wonderful work they are doing. Eat here, you won't...
Read moreThia is by far the best French restaurant we have been to in Edinburgh. Firstly the restaurant is small, but there are not too many tables that you feel cramped. There is French music playing which adds to the atmosphere and it is not too loud. The staff are very friendly, welcoming, attentive and explained every dish to us when it was served. And the food, wow, absolutely amazing. The 'french onion soup' was moreish and delicious. The lamb rack was moist, tender, well seasoned and paired with a tasty sauce. The venison dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, with delicious potato dauphnoise. The chocolate hazelnut dessert is decadent but balanced, and not too sweet. The meat/seafood platters look amazing too so we will definitely come back to try this. We booked a table so definitely recommend others to...
