Artisan have been working away implementing a few positive changes recently so I felt like I should update my review and give an extra star. The cafe has been given a new floor, a new menu board and various small touches to give it a slight refresh which is welcome. They have a new espresso machine; it's not lever controlled like the last one so it misses some of the charm but in general I think consistency is better as a result. There are new items on the menu - in particular I have enjoyed the nitro brew and cold brew options in the summer. Food is still relatively limited but the cakes are good, soup is a good lunchtime option and I've even noticed some sandwiches for sale recently. There is a card machine! I've been waiting years for this as previously you would have to wander over to a newsagent up the road to try and get cash. Contactless. It's still the place I come to most to get good coffee because unlike most other places it's open late (7.30pm on Mon-Thurs). Artisan helped to kickstart a lot of the Edinburgh coffee scene so it's good to see them making improvements and not just relying on...
Read moreExcellent coffee shop in central Edinburgh five mins walk from the coach station, perfect when you get off the overnight coach and want a great cup of coffee.
I found this place by Google search on the overnight coach coming into the city and decided to give it a try, let's say it was a really great find and I would recommend this place for anyone looking for great quality coffee.
We ordered a cortado, a cappuccino and a mocha - all three were perfectly served and tested excellent, if I made coffee that good at home then I would be proud. This is true artisan coffee made to a very high standard and far superior to anything you'll find in the usual coffee shops, so don't waste your time and money - walk a few minutes from the center of town and find the best coffee in Edinburgh, you won't be disappointed.
Really great start to our day out in Edinburgh and coming from London where we have lots of good coffee shops I can say the Artisan Roast in Edinburgh is one of the best I've...
Read moreIt was our first visit to Edinburgh and we were so lucky to stay at a place that was just a walking distance from this cafe. We came here every morning to have a filter coffee and a flat white. We came here frequently enough that we got the 10 stamps to earn a free drink! This is a place that is serious about their beans and the way they prepare each coffee. They obviously have built a good relationship with their local customers who come in every morning on their way to work and they are also very welcoming to tourists like us. We especially love the political ethos of the place - and the weirdly cool decor that delivers that message. Kudos to every barista who works here who just radiate so much kindness and care. There is a nice seating area in the back where one can sit, read, and enjoy your coffee while being surrounded by plants. They also sell beans and we cannot wait to try the beans that we purchased. This coffee shop is not...
