What a disappointment!||I am a little lost for words on this place.||I will start with a positive which would be location, for our stay this was well placed for what we wanted to do.||For us that is the only positive.||Negative |A sign of the time but not a single member of staff seen the entire visit. You are given a code to get in and then another code to get your key.||Room was cold with minimal bedding and the heating centrally controlled . Due to a global crisis!! I don't believe there is a shortage of gas just an increase in price.|On no occasion was our room warm not even with the additional electric heather on.|The floor was on such an angle everything you put down rolled across the room, including the bed whenever you got on that. |The stairs to the second floor creek and move so much each day I was grateful to get to the top without them collapsing and I am not a large lady. The doors are so close together that when your neighbors into their room it's soundsike they are trying to get into your room. ||There is a kettle with tea/coffee facilities but you have to plug this in on the floor as no accessible socket for this. On the plus side you can keep milk fresh in the room without a fridge as it's so cold.||The curtains don't fit the windows so as well as letting in the light they let in the draught from the ill fitting old windows. The bathroom is modern and warm in one corner due to an electric towel rail however the lights will go out whilst you are in the shower as they are on a timer so when you are in the shower they don't pick up movement so turn off.||All in all a huge...
Read moreAssistance was virtually unreadable here. The entire hotel is unmanned, no front desk, no nothing. We never received the email regarding the check in information, including the password to get in the building or retrieve our keys. On the door it said to ring for assistance/ring for deliveries. We rang 3 times around 11am, no answer. Assumed the no answer was because it was too early for check in. Hauled our luggage around Edinburgh for a couple hours until we tried again, rang 4+ times. No answer. We sat outside until another tenant arrived and let us into the building. We still had not received our check in information. We called (using their landline) the help desk number, which brought me to what I believe was a call center, as it was for multiple different hotels. The lady on the phone was rude and unclear, instead of asking for clarification she would go silent on the other end for upwards of 30 seconds until I asked if she was still there. Eventually they sent our information through WhatsApp. No further explanation on why we never received our details/apology. The rooms themselves were.. a bit run down. Cracks in the roof etc. Nothing super major. However, the showerhead had rust and mould along and inside it, which was disgusting. As well, the door lock to the room constantly got stuck/jammed which was super frustrating to deal with after hauling our luggage up 3 flights of narrow stairs. Overall, we do not recommend this hotel, unless you want to be trapped outside for hours unable to...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Regent House Hotel in Edinburgh and had an overall pleasant experience. The location is ideally situated near many of the city's main attractions, a variety of restaurants, and even a little Tesco within walking distance, which was very convenient for grabbing essentials. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the city, with most places being easily accessible on foot or via trams.
The room interior was a highlight for me. The high ceilings and charming historic vibe truly added to the character of the stay, making the room feel both spacious and cozy.
They were responsive to messages through Booking.com, which helped address some of our queries quickly despite the lack of a physical receptionist.
However, carrying luggage up the staircase was challenging, especially if you have heavy bags or are staying on one of the upper floors.
Another downside we encountered was related to parking. On our second day, we rented a car to explore areas beyond the city center, but parking turned out to be an issue. Unfortunately, there’s no free parking available, and we ended up using the nearby Q-Park, which cost £30 for overnight parking. It felt a bit expensive and added an unexpected expense to our trip. If you’re planning to visit with a car, just be prepared for the parking situation.
Overall, the Regent House Hotel is a great choice for anyone seeking a convenient location when...
