We came here for brunch because of the high ratings on Google, but the experience was honestly terrible. The place is tiny and super crowded, and the service we got was shockingly rude and I really doubt one of the waitor here is racist. I usually don’t leave reviews, but this time I feel like I have to because we were treated so unfairly.
When we walked in, it was so packed that we could barely move. At first, the waiter seemed okay. My boyfriend went to the counter to order, and we were told we could switch to another table if we wanted. But the waiter only vaguely pointed to one, so we weren’t sure exactly which table he meant. When we decided to move and accidentally sat at the wrong table, he stared at me angrily with an unbelievable look on his face, which was so uncomfortable. It was an honest mistake, we didn’t mean to sit at the wrong table, and I don’t think it was such a big deal that it deserved that kind of reaction.
Later, my boyfriend went to ask for some tissues, and the waiter just flat-out ignored him. Someone else had to step in to help. I saw that waiter politely and friendly welcoming other customers, but not to us. Is it because we were Asian so that we were being treated differently like this?
The food wasn’t even worth it. It was just average, and the bacon was way too salty. On top of that, they got my boyfriend’s order wrong. He asked for an extra egg but got black pudding instead and had to pay extra for it. I saw other reviews mentioning wrong orders too, but honestly, the rude attitude we got was way worse than the food issues.
We came here expecting a nice brunch, but the whole experience just ruined our day. I don’t think I’ll ever come back again, and I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially to our Asian friends. There are plenty of better spots for brunch where everyone is treated with respect.
Ps: Thanks for the owner's reply, I modify the review to clarify. my original review had a typo, it wasn’t black pudding, it was haggis. But your response actually proves the point that the wrong dish was served. We ordered an extra egg like I said in the previous review, not haggis. Looking at other low rated reviews, it seems like getting orders wrong is a common issue here.
Also, I appreciate that you let us change the table. Maybe it was too noisy, so there was some confusion about which table we wanted, but this couldn't explain for the unfriendly attitude we got from another waitor.
Compared with the attitude we got from that waitor, I must say the food was better. But honestly, instead of arguing with customers, I think improving the service would go a long way. Hopefully, it’ll match the standards you say...
Read moreWe visited Braw Brunch as a group of four at midday. Despite the small space, we were seated promptly after a short wait outside, where we had a chance to look over the menu – a thoughtful touch that helped us decide ahead of time.
The staff were incredibly friendly and upbeat, creating a lovely atmosphere by warmly greeting customers and saying goodbye with genuine enthusiasm. Their hard work and positive attitude didn’t go unnoticed and really added to the overall experience.
When our food arrived, it was perfectly delectable; however, we noticed we didn’t have any cutlery at first, which meant some of our food got a little cold towards the end. That said, the quality and flavour more than made up for it, and we particularly appreciated how accommodating they were with menu swaps, such as changing black pudding for a hash brown.
Braw Brunch also offers a great selection of pastries and cakes, which we’ll definitely be back to try! Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for brunch, and we’d...
Read moreI had high hopes based on the reviews, to be honest the male server was absolutely fine and was no problem.
However, I ordered avocado toast which comes with two poached eggs. When I was served, the bread wasn’t toasted, it was cold and the poached eggs were solid. The salad was rather old looking too. As I say, the male server helped me out and I got a fresh plate (thank you to him), which was better and had heat in it, and had good poached eggs. But the female server - wow she was so rude. She looked angry that I had said that the food wasn’t great. If that were my job or my establishment, especially if someone complained politely like I did, i’d apologise and make sure all was well with the replaced food (the male server did tbf) but she swiped my plate off the table as if I inconvenienced her.
Honestly, the food second time round was better but pretty average for a brunch spot. I’ve visited much better breakfast/brunch places whilst in Edinburgh....
