Seems like the owner has changed. The waiter hardly understood English language which led to receive a different food. I ordered cortado and they did not have a suitable cup, so we agreed with oat flat white. They brought me something more like cappuccino in a cappuccino cup, but not flat white at all!!! Look at the picture and the foam… the coffee itself was very watery… my partner ordered pepper mint tea and for some reason received an English breakfast tea… the food itself was average , considering the price. I ordered Mediterranean avo toast and asked to add a poached egg on top and the waiter brought me a different dish, although I was very clear with my order. The break for the toast was from a cheapest bread loaf from Lidl (!!???) and avocado was already dark. And I had only 2 cherry tomatoes in the salad lol My partnersBritish breakfast did not have any butter there and had no toast. We were very disappointed with this experience and do not recommend to rely on 4.7 rate for Google maps as we suppose that either the reviews are not real or the owner has changed…

One of the best local small businesses in Edinburgh! Best part of the cafe is the friendly staff, they are professional but casual and make it clear that they care about you enjoying your time there. They are not nosy or overly “bubbly”, just a calm and comforting environment. If you like being a regular at one place, this is a great option. Moving to a new country can feel lonely but when I come here I feel like I can relax with new friends or family. You can tell the owners care a great deal about the community and customers. The coffee and food is also delicious. They have Italian pastries and classic sandwiches, but also sometimes serve Turkish food. This is the only cafe where I can get chips that are more like “fries” and are actually salted and crispy, not undercooked or under seasoned. Sometimes it’s hard to find food that I has enough flavor in Edinburgh lol, but I don’t have to worry about that here. They also have punch cards so you can save on coffee as a regular even though it’s already affordable, and Wi-Fi!

I recently had breakfast at Calton View Cafe with two friends, and it was a wonderful experience. We each tried different dishes: I opted for the full breakfast, while my friends chose the poached eggs and salmon. The full breakfast was hearty and well-prepared, with each element cooked to perfection. The poached eggs were beautifully done—soft and runny just as they should be. The salmon was fresh and paired perfectly with the eggs, making for a light yet satisfying meal. The coffee was excellent, rich and smooth, providing the perfect complement to our meals. The service was warm and attentive, striking the right balance between being helpful and giving us space to enjoy our breakfast. Great location, food, and service! Overall, Calton View Cafe delivered a great start to our day, and we’ll definitely be returning!

After we enter the cafe, the weitter with the face inside the phone barely look at us and hand us the menus without looking at us saying something hard to understand, as I was confused I asked if he could repeat and he said, drink or food? Nothing else we found it very unpleasant but anyway wanted the cup of something nice and warm since we were pretty cold with our baggage from train. Then he came and was a bit more polite so we ordered. When other people was comming inside he was ordering but never asked again if someone wants something if there are empty plates or cups. Just starring into the phone all the time. The cook took like a billion smoke breaks while we were there. Toilet is completely broken. There was some person who took away garbage and waitter let him to do his own coffee. In between all of this they were shouting around, obviously friends, anything against cheerfull hommie atmosphere but since they could not care less of the customers it was pretty disturbing. Not at all met expectations since it has pretty good review. Btw coffee was so hot I burned my mouth and it at all was not 60°C as it suppose tobe for...

I recently visited Calton View Cafe and was absolutely blown away! This place is a true gem for breakfast lovers.

Food: The food was simply outstanding. I ordered their signature avocado toast and a stack of fluffy pancakes, and both were divine. The ingredients tasted so fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Their freshly squeezed orange juice and cappuccino were the perfect accompaniments.

Service: The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They made sure my coffee cup was always full and checked in just the right amount to ensure everything was to my liking. The team seemed genuinely happy to be there, which added a positive vibe to the experience.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cozy, modern design and plenty of natural light. The soft background music added to the relaxing vibe, making it a great spot to start the day.

If you’re looking for a breakfast spot that nails food, service, and ambiance, this is the place. Can’t wait to return,...
