Mediocre and Disappointing:
I have been to the cool Jade three times before over the last four years for a family celebration. My wife and I decided to take my mother for a belated Christmas meal in early January 2022. We arrived at 5:30 pm at a much-changed dining room. The first thing that struck us was how extremely cold and dark the room was (we had to use our phone torches to read the menus) , so much so that none of our party was able to remove our coats for the entire 1.5 hrs visit. The dining room looked more like a cafe than the dining room I had visited in the past ( not even linen-covered tables, just mats on a hardwood table with hard wooden seats. I paid £111 and is my custom left a tip (so spent £120), but it was not worth spending even half that amount. In my personal opinion, the Jade has slipped from excellent to mediocre. I recommend giving this a pass until they get their mojo back as there are many other very good Chinese restaurants to give your patronage to if you are spending that kind of money. Hopefully they can get back to 5...
Read moreWow.. where do you start when everything was just perfect? The restaurant is set in what originally was a fine house with high ceilings, beautiful ceiling cornices, and a twist of Scotland added to the lovely Chinese decor. Staff... wonderful, very attentive, and you can tell they are proud of what they do, and really made it a nice evening. Food... OMG, probably the best I have had, certainly cannot think of a better one. I can highly recommend the King Prawn Satay. Just perfect on the spice heat, and soo delicious. My wife said her beef Lar Chee was really good as well. This restaurant is certainly worth travelling for, can highly recommend this restaurant. Definitely a 5 * experience. I only added photos of our desserts.. photos wouldn't do the starters and mains any justice. Thank...
Read moreAn absolutely lovely restaurant on the inside with beautiful interior. The staff here are also great and always have been, really attentive and helpful when it came to my 93 year old grandfather.
The food here is really tasty, and loads of options if you’re a vegetarian. The staff were also happy to tweak dishes to add tofu/veg.
We stared with complimentary prawn crackers and then veggie spring rolls, crispy seaweed, and salt and chilli tofu and aubergine. The spring rolls weren’t my favourite but the tofu and aubgerine were amazing.
We also had Szechuan tofu which was packed with flavour and loads of tasty fresh veg. The veggie chow mein was good too and another generous serving of tofu. I’d skip the pak Choi / steamed greens dish as it did lack flavour.
A great wee spot opposite...
