First time I came to Cowan and son it was ok. I got a coffee and a piece of cake... So I thought I'd bring my wife back ordered soup and sandwiches to share. After ordering we sat down and waited about 5 minutes and noticed more people ordering. Another 5 minute passes and the new guest received there egg dishes before we got our lunch.... ( Whatever at this point so the kitchen is running funny for the day right ?...) Well after another few minutes they brought us our food. Coffee was burn and unprofessional prepared. ( In Edinburgh you should be making espresso to highest quality as there are so many options of great cafes.) The soup though is why I am unfortunately here. At first taste I just thought it was a poorly made soup. My partner thought the same but mentioned to say something. I went up and asked the girl working what was up with the soup. To only be told that it was the last of "that" soup and there was a new one ... Didn't offer it to be at first. I Told her the soup was terrible and not servable. I had to ask for a refund as to the fact I figured out in that moment the reason our meals took so long was due to the soup needing to come to temperature with the addition of a ton of Edinburghs fines tap water in accompany to my soup. I was really upset with the lack of care, and how I had to almost demand a refund for my watery veg... The bagel was fine but after all that I should had gotten a refund and not just the soup. I think it's obvious but I wouldn't recommend or go back to this establishment. I feel like I was treated poorly as they assume I am a tourist as I'm American but live in Scotland full-time. And will only tell my friends to...
Β Β Β Read moreThis cafe has always been popular, and my partner and I still refer to it as Maxis. I popped in with my dog on Saturday for a quick bite to eat, but the young chap behind the counter gleefully advised me when I was placing my order that they had stopped serving.
Grrrr. I had came in, and sat down to read the menu. I saw they stopped serving at 4pm, so went to the counter at 3:57. By the time I was placing my order, it was 3:59 - which is when this bloke was saying "Sorry man, we've stopped serving at 4." No point in having a bun fight over the time - even though this time the customer was right. All a bit like that 'Falling Down' film.
Had a cup of tea instead, and left, realising the place has gone a bit too hipster for me and my dog. Shame, as this used to be an amazing place to...
Β Β Β Read moreThis place looked so cute from the outside, so I decided to go in and grab a bite. The service from the girl (blond hair) was great, and she made me feel welcome. However, I was still drinking my soft drink when (I can only presume) the owner came over and made me pay, without asking if I wanted anything else (I had not asked for the bill). I was a bit stunned but thought that maybe he thought I wanted to leave. I carried on drinking my drink when he came over again and asked me to leave as they had a queue of people outside. I asked him if I could please finish my drink first and offered to move to a smaller table which he accepted. Something like this has never happened to me before, but I thought of it as such rude and lousy service, I had to...
