-BIRTHDAY DINNER- Absolute treat, my girlfriend phoned ahead to book and it was very easy and quick. They asked her a few questions and really listened and noted down our details. When we arrived at the restaurant we were treated by the nicest guy in the world (on of the owners) he really took care of us completely and utterly. We were walked to our lovely table where we found a bottle of beer left freezing cold and already half poured as they were expecting us. This was on the house and a great way of them showing they really took note of what our names were and what the occasion etc was. The food. OMG. I have never been to a Michelin star before so my GF wanted to treat me and heard this place was up for winning one after only being open for a few months. The food. Omg. The food! I have never in my life tasted such beautifully cooked and prepared food. From the dishes looks to the tastes and service. EVERYTHING was taken care of. Any questions and our host, the part owner, knew everything about everything. From the source of his distilleries that the beers they serve come from to probably the name of the cow the beef came from and what kind of grass he use to eat hahaha! I have never had such great service. When leaving they even presented our jackets back to us in a perfect pristine and warmed up manner that was perfect for the cold Edinburgh breeze we were about to walk out into. They offered to call our taxi and even fixed my collar as I (a young adult) barely knew how to dress this fancy and they absolutely wouldn't have it if I was to leave without having every need catered to and met, including making sure I looked my absolute best when I entered and left.
Did I also mention that when we arrived they knew our names and faces before we even had to introduce ourselves. Now that is great service. 5 out of 5 10 out of 10 A billions times a thank you to Nicolas and Cameron (the brothers and owners) and also all of the staff for making my 21st one hell of an amazing dinner. Don't change a thing guys, you are in your...
Read moreWe found this place just off one of the busier streets, as we came in we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table in the conservatory at the back of the restaurant. We realised there were actually quite a few cozy little pockets nestled in various corners of the warren like building, great for date night! As we were seated we were given the wine and drinks menus and water was brought over. The wine list was well curated and they had a nice selection of bespoke cocktails, they also explained that requests for cocktails 'off menu' were welcome. The food menu was compact but varied (which we prefer) and all tastes were catered for. There was definitely a strong theme of seasonal produce throughout the dishes which we really appreciated. We both had the carrot risotto with walnut pesto which is honestly the nicest I've had in any restaurant. The dish was complex but so perfectly balanced, with a light cheesy tang tying everything together. For the mains my partner had the cod, which was a gorgeous chunky fillet cooked perfectly so it just flaked apart. This rested on a bed of deliciously seasoned lentils and was adorned by the freshest muscles and cockles. I had a pork fillet dish which came with purple potato gnocchi (something I've never had before and were deliciously soft and fluffy) all tied together with a luscious sauce. All of the savoury dishes were perfectly seasoned and proportioned. Desert was a financier with rhubarb which was light and not too sweet, my partner had the pear panna cotta which was also really light with a zingy lime sorbet. We also had wines with the starters and mains which were very well recommend for each of our dishes by the very knowledgeable staff, and to finish the desert cocktails were just the perfect ending to a beautiful meal. Staff were exceptional throughout and you could tell that they genuinely wanted you to have the best experience, which we did! The price was also very reasonable...
Read morePerformed all due search for good restaurants in Edinburgh, and Forage & Chatter was ranked # 1 in the reviews. Reserved a table for two about a month or so in advance at our preferred time. We were greeted at the door with light banter from Cameron and escorted directly to our table. The restaurant was well appointed, softish lighting, pleasant wall decorations and herbs growing in vases throughout. Service was very prompt, with energetic and knowledgeable staff
They started us off with complimentary rolls accompanied with fresh pesto and/or whipped butter, both of which were delectable. We had ordered local wines, by recommendation, and they were good and appropriate for our entrees. For starters we ordered Scottish Salmon and Liver Parfait. The Parfait was nothing short of revelatory, whipped to a mousse texture, dusted with mushroom powder, to slowly savor whilst melting on your tongue. The salmon was also prepared to perfection according to my wife. For entrees, we had aged beef and North Sea Hake. Have I said extraordinary Yet? To die for (last meal?) !
Every course seemed like it exceeded the one before, no time to reflect on the last as the one before you at the moment demanded your full gustatory attention. Just exquisite. Dessert anyone? Mais Qui! The lemon cake was superb; the chocolate ganache, divine... This well travelled and well fed guy, places this meal in the top five of his life.
Lastly, we were offered a short tutorial on Scotch Whiskey, we purchasing one and the house providing another, gratis, for comparison. I now have a new appreciation for the beverage, and know the difference between great whiskey and the merely palatable.
In conclusion, an otherworldly dining adventure, top notch from beginning to end. I left Forage & Chatter much happier for the dining experience and grateful for the welcome and guidance we received. Thank you everyone at Forage. We felt we had...
