The staff was very accommodating. As the person that steamed the spinach put way too much salt. It was after 1230, the waiter checked with the kitchens and they happily prepared more. I just hope it was olive on the spinach but I would have preferred it steamed for around four minutes and add a wee bit of decent salted butter. The music was great we luckily arrived in time to get a window seat. I will never choose the vegetarian of a Scottish breakfast as the lorne sausage, black pudding and the veggie banger had flavour and so did the pudding but they were very dry and they were sucking the moisture from my mouth. So I recommend to trial a proper veggie breakfast with real vegetables. But great idea just not my thing. The mocha coffee was great and the poached egg and mushroom was cooked to perfection but I would have preferred another portobello mushroom rather than the very salty and over fried potato bread. I have had better potato bread or whatever it’s called in other establishments.

We traveled here with kids who weren't quite ready to go out for breakfast. I came in to order takeaway and it wasn't an issue. They provided us with water and I got a latte while we waited. I appreciate they gave us a place to sit in the meantime. Once we got back to our hotel, we noticed our food was poorly wrapped for takeaway. Porridge and yogurt were turned on their side and wrapped in foil. Mostly just made me chuckle but wasn't an actual problem. I got into my eggs Benedict and the ham wasn't cooked at all giving it an odd texture. May as well have just been a ham sandwich. Egg, muffin, and sauce were good. Waffle, I made sure we could get syrup with it, didn't really have any and my 9yr old disliked it so much he took one bite and quit. I do understand food in the UK is different than the states but to pay £58 for this, is highly disappointing. The establishment is stunning and would be ok for drinks.

Came here with the wife, popped in for lunch bite to eat. Passed many times and for no reason, just never came in. Always go to George street for drinks and eats. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt very welcome. The staff were welcoming and had big smiles to welcome us. Showed us to our table and took a drinks order. On the return asked our food order. The food arrived and was pipping hot and have to say, very tastey. There are tables up a stair from the street level, but plenty on the same level. Chairs are very comfortable, only slight thing is they are a little lower than normal for eating food. But that’s a bit pick. It was ok! I’m sure it’s a nice place to have a drink, and you can sit and watch the world pass by the windows. It’s Edinburgh prices, but worth it for the quality of food. Would we come here again? Definitely

We were in Edinburgh for the day visiting from up North as we try do a few times per year. It was very sunny and we really liked all the flowers outside the cafe so decided to sit and have a few drinks. Once we sat it was really awkward because we saw three waiters but nobody came up to us for 7 whole minutes (I know this because I’d just sent a txt message as we sat down). We tried to get the waiters attention and some even looked at us but there was no acknowledgement. Eventually a girl came over and I understand people can have bad days but it just seemed that she couldn’t be bothered with us. There was no smile or even polite chat, she just waited to see what we wanted. We ordered drinks which took another 6 7 minutes to come. Again no ‘do you need anything else’, she just left. My Prosecco was so flat as if it was the last glass, I did drink it because I didn’t want to make a fuss. The same waiter who served us, her friends must’ve been sitting besides us because she then decided to sit with them and eat and drink. Maybe she was finished or on her break I don’t know. But we then didn’t know who was meant to be serving us. We finished our drinks but again nobody came up to ask if we needed anything else. It wasn’t super busy either btw. We managed to flag down a guy and I asked for another Prosecco but asked if it was nearing the end of the bottle I would order something else because my last drink was flat. He went away and returned about 5 minutes later saying the reason for our drinks delay was because they were opening a new bottle. As if that was a huge deal and reason for a delay. We eventually got our drinks 10 minutes in total later.

I just don’t really understand this place, cute spot decent decor but really slow and unfriendly service. I wouldn’t come...

Booked a table online for me and my wife to have a nice dinner wrapping up our 4 days visit to wonderful Edinburgh. Arrived about half an hour early, we were told at the door that they are unable to accomodate us as our table is not empty yet, there was already an empty table right next to the entrance where a couple before us were told to sit while they wait for their table upstairs. Anyways, we left and came back half an hour later, we were told to wait while our table is being cleaned, we happily waited while the reciptionist went inside to check on our table, and showed us to the table by the entrance, it was a table where every single person coming in or even walking out can see you eat which can be a bit uncomfortable, that table was very close to the other proper tables so we assumed it wouldnt be used due to COVID anyways. We could hear the converasations between the reciptionist and all the other customers and even between the bartenders themselves. I asked for the table to be changed, of course they were unable to accomodate and we ended up leaving. I didn't want to make a fuss at the time because there were other customers and I didn't want to be a nuisance to anyone, but that was just terrible and inappropriate and I couldn't help but feel a hint of classism in the...

One word to start; Great! Like any tourist it's sometimes hard to find a good place to eat not knowing the lay of the land. We ended up in The Huxley by very good misfortune. We had actually stopped in a close-bye restaurant and got completely ignored (never got seated) so we decided to leave that restaurant and go to The Huxley instead. We were very happy with the choice. From food, to atmosphere to staff, it was the best in all 3 categories in all the restaurants we ate in, as we traveled for 2 weeks through out Scotland and Ireland. The food and drink was superb but what really made our stay was Charlotte. Charlotte was an engaged, pleasant person. She took care of all our needs, answered all the annoying tourist questions we came up with, put us at ease and made us enjoy our day in Edinburgh that much more. It has been two weeks since we were in The Huxley. Through all the hustle and bustle, traveling 200 miles aday and trying to get in as many sights as possible, Charlotte still stands out in my wife's and my memory to the point of requiring us to write this review. We wish Charlotte and The Huxley continued success and would highly recommend both to...
