We used to eat a lot at this restaurant, just after it changed hands from Xanadu. The new owner was brilliant, so professional and helpful, the food always brilliant. Fast forward a few years to today’s meal. It really couldn’t be an experience further from the ones we used to have. The service was not good at all, despite an embarrassing plethora of staff stood around by the bar. My order came out wrong not once but twice, and only came out because my husband asked where it was when everyone else had nearly eaten their food. We were told they forgot. When it came out wrong a second time, ridiculously spicy to the point of inedible, I was told patronisingly by the Indian female member of staff “Indian food is spicy you know”. No shhh Sherlock. That’s why I had a rogan Josh the night before at another restaurant in Edinburgh (a better one) and have eaten in various Indian and Asian eateries my whole life, my mother being Khmer. I do not expect an embarrassing lecture at a table from someone who cannot get an order right twice. A chap who I assume to be the manager removed the meal from our bill despite the Indian female server saying she wouldn’t. I had to threaten non payment of the bill before she did anything. In the meantime, the young female server decided it was a good time to stand in the kitchen and make comments and giggle. Unsurprisingly about right for this place now. Unfortunately a lick of pink paint and some garlands and wall hangings don’t make up for the poor service, inedible food and a sleep decline in standards. I cannot believe I even have to leave this review as we have loved Gautams for years but I will never set foot in there again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

What an incredible experience…. I can not recommend this place to you highly enough I recommend it to you unreservedly! From the moment you step in through the door you are instantly captured & carried away into an experience like no other. Having had food from Nepal before and in particular the Ghurka community down south in Surrey & Sussex I was extremely excited to stumble upon this & sample the cultural dishes again. Lauren was kind, welcoming, approachable knowledgeable, all heart & made the experience even more memorable! Her recommendations of dishes were spot on. The food is delicious, rich & full of flavour & the portion sizes are more than substantial The quality of the lamb on the bone was the best lamb shank I’ve had in my life The owner made us feel so special as we walked in & every part of the service was wonderful… Ps. Do not be worried about spice or heat - try and dish be adventurous & ask them to adjust your spice level if you need it Thank you - can not wait to come again when we are next here! My recent dining experience at Gautam's Nepalese and Indian restaurant left me utterly impressed, and I owe a large part of it to the extraordinary service provided by Suman, who truly lives up to his nickname - Suman the Superman. He was the kindest waiter we've met in our 5 days trip to Scotland. From the moment we stepped inside, Suman welcomed us and guided us through the menu, offering insightful recommendations tailored to our preferences. Speaking of dishes, as a vegetarian group we ordered Vegetable momos, vegetable samosas which were a heavenly start. In main course we ordered chana masala which was the best we've ever had in whole UK and Paneer makhani was also really good. Tarka dal was so rich in flavours that we literally didn't waste a drop of it. Rice was perfectly cooked, and speaking of Garlic Naan it was the best you can ever have in UK. It just smelled so good and tasted even better. All the dishes were very well garnished, we were so hungry that forgot to click photos. Each dish at Gautam's was a testament to the chef's dedication to authenticity and quality, making it a memorable evening. If you're in search of exceptional Nepalese and Indian cuisine served with a side of genuine warmth, look no further than Gautam's and the superhero-like...

Had an exceptional experience at Gautam’s that exceeded all expectations. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the perfect tone for the evening. The decor is elegant yet cozy, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions.

The food was nothing short of amazing. We started with the Tandoori Platter, which was an absolute highlight. The variety of perfectly marinated meats, grilled to perfection, had a smoky flavor that was simply irresistible. For the main course, the Butter Chicken was a standout dish. The creamy, rich gravy with tender chicken pieces was so flavorful that we couldn't stop dipping our naan into it. Every bite was a burst of authentic Indian spices, balanced to perfection.

To round off the meal, the Malai Kulfi was a delightful treat. Creamy, smooth, and mildly sweet, it was the perfect end to a flavorful feast.

The service was prompt, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive, enhancing the overall dining experience. If you're looking for an Indian restaurant that offers both exceptional food and a great atmosphere, Gautam’s is a must-visit. Don’t miss the Tandoori Platter, Butter Chicken, Mango Lassi and Malai Kulfi – they are...
