Probably my favourite place to get a meal in Edinburgh, Indaba offers a tasty selection of South America, African, and Spanish tapas. There's bold, exciting flavours on offer, from the boerewors, the chorizo in cider, to the tart, vinegary anchovies and creamy manchego. If you're after a larger plate, the lightly fried arepas are crunchy and delicious, with plentiful and lovely fillings.
It's dessert I'm most excited about: I would do unlawful things to get to the crying cake, a chocolate lava cake that's quite simply one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. I've also seen grown men reduced to wobbly messes in the face of the cheesecake, which is light as air and delicious.
The interior tends towards the functional, although the orange walls means it feels very cheery, if not especially stylish. The place is almost always very full, though, which means there's an excited, convivial vibe as people tuck into their meals. Service is very good and there's always a complimentary digestif at the end of the night, which is a very pleasing touch. Just a great, great...
Read moreDon’t go without a booking. We were over from Ireland for the weekend for the rugby. We heard good things about here so said we would give it a try. No one at door or just inside waiting to seat you etc. 4 tables were empty so my missis sat at the table just inside the door i was still standing waiting for someone, the the owner or manager appeared with his book in hand, asked if we had a booking we said sorry we didn’t, at that point here is where my problem lay. In his most aggressive ignorant gestured my miss out of the chair, didn’t clarify if he had any tables or would have any tables at a specific time. Just completely ignored us and dealt with 2 other customers who had walked in while been rude with us. Granted we didn’t have a booking but we did try calling by phone earlier but didn’t get answer, so said we would try just dropping by and that was our mistake but doesn’t give anyone the right to be ignorant or...
Read moreSome of the best tapas in town, closer to the experience one could expect while in Spain. There's a reasonable list of specials which varies frequently, so there's an opportunity to try new things with every visit.
The desserts were a bit underwhelming and easily a pass for me.
The service is friendly but a bit on the slow-ish side. However, one of the dishes was served half a portion due to running out but there was no adjustment on the bill.
The prices are reasonable and it is a close match with other tapas restaurants in the city.
Nevertheless, lost 1 star due to automatically adding a 10% service charge. It should be up to the customer the decision of tipping or not, instead of pressuring the customer into paying the charge by adding...
