Please avoid at all costs. I ordered via Uber Eats, and the portion was terribly small. I ordered the pork siew mai, Chinese pork porridge with preserved egg, and a chicken sweetcorn soup 1. Food was very high in MSG. - all the food that I've ordered was high in MSG, which irritates your throat terribly. Someone mentioned this in one of the one-star reviews, I ordered despite reading that review, and my food tasted indeed like what the MSG review guy said. 2. Chinese Pork porridge with preserved egg - my porridge had no traces of pork AT ALL. LOL. Terrible. Believe it or not, there is NO pork at all, I even went back to check my order to confirm that the order didn't read "porridge with preserved egg". Not sure if the owner wants to argue, but the bowl of porridge I received had NO PORK AT ALL. - pathetically small portion (see picture), this was 5.90 pounds. 3. Hygiene issues - found a fly (see picture). It is obviously a fly. Don't even argue.

I have said for years that the jianbing Chinese breakfast street egg omelet/pancake would catch fire across the world if given the chance. This is what I ate on my way to university almost everyday living in Beijing, usually sold on street corners. Here in this new Edinburgh offering they make Shandong (a northern province that, along with Beijing, is a home to ) style jianbing for a very affordable £3.50 when I was there this morning. You don’t even need all the extras on offer, something I don’t remember being an option from life in Beijing. It’s core is egg, a flour dough, a “special” brown sauce, green onions and some small pieces of fried Chinese bread. The only sad thing is that this place only opens at 11:00, when I would love to swing by in the mornings for this perfect Chinese breakfast item.

Food was ok. Definitely a few things I would be curious to try, but perhaps not in a dinner setting. Portions were a bit small, but very well presented: - sweet and sour fish - think frozen fish might be a bit mushy, and odd taste - beef fried ho fan - really good. Would be a good lunch dish and a drink. Maybe some sides - salt and chili squid - great batter, perhaps lacking in the salt and chili taste. Really crunchy - salt and chili wings - lacking in salt and chili taste. Because they may have been fried from cooked, they were slightly overcooked - morning glory and fermented tofu - just small portion. But quite well cooked. Just no chili peppers. - braised lamb in hotpot - this is another star of the show. Ignoring the portion. Really tender, well seasoned, and aromatic

Disappointing Dining at Street of Beijing

I recently dined at Street of Beijing, a Chinese restaurant with an impressive 4.5-star rating from over a thousand reviews. As a fan of Chinese cuisine, my expectations were high, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The restroom in the restaurant is extremely small and lacked soap for handwashing.

We were seated at a table opposite an open door, which was quite unpleasant in the winter chill. Though we moved tables, the initial discomfort set a poor tone for the evening. For our meal, I ordered a vegetarian soup and green beans, while my sister chose lamb. The soup was mediocre, barely scraping a 3 out of 5 rating, but the green beans were a major letdown. They were old, rubbery, and nearly inedible.

The situation worsened with lamb dish. What was served was mostly fat and extremely rubbery, making it impossible to eat. We expressed our dissatisfaction and requested to order something else, only to be informed by the waiter that we couldn't change our order and would still need to pay for these unsatisfactory dishes.

To add insult to injury, at the end of this regrettable meal, we were asked to use a cash machine as the restaurant didn't want to incur charges for using bank cards.

In summary, despite its high ratings, Street of Beijing delivered a dining experience that was below par in both food quality and customer service. This disappointing visit has not only deterred me from returning but has also affected my willingness to try other Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh. I advise others to consider alternative...

This restaurant is a scam, do not waste your time and money coming here. I struggle to understand how over 400 people can give such good ratings - most likely purchased fake ratings or new owners. The waiter (quite possibly owner) was trying to sell us dishes that weren’t even on the menu. The prawn dish he recommended for my one year old baby (not on the menu) was not even appropriate for a one year old! He only recommended it as it was £18! He kept trying to scam us by trying to get us to order more. We are a family of 3 (2 adults and a baby), and he had recommended we order 5 dishes, when 3 was more than adequate in the end. Food was really salty and poor in quality. My husband ordered the beef brisket noodles and the meat was dry and hard and not fresh at all! He took two bites and didn’t even want to finish it. The dumplings were thick and the meat was not fresh! Hope this posts save at least a few people from coming here. I know the owner will not own up to it - look at his previous posts from negative comments. I wonder how he sleeps at night.

Just read his response - honestly most probably the same idiot writing the response as the one serving us. Perhaps you don’t have kids but of course a one year old eats food! Secondly, CCTV does not exist in your shop you scum bag! Thirdly, another 100 reviews added since we last came here, stop paying people from China 10 cents to write favourable reviews. Lastly, glad you sleep well at night.. with heaps...

Worst service we have got!! We were told we will be given a table in 5 min and that took until 30 min. Then we got table and ordered some food that took 40 minutes to arrive.

We were quite excited to try our authentic Chinese food but then the reception from one of the staff was worst.

We weren’t sure what we have got and asking if this is what we ordered and the staff was super rude and loud. We ordered chicken fried noodles but the chicken was watery and when we asked what is this and the answer was rude. That was not right behaviour. We understood that it is very busy and we have been very accommodating with the wait but the staff behaviour was not what we expected.

We honestly felt we would have been turned down saying they were busy then letting us in and putting both parties into an odd situation. We were hungry and eager for food but they were busy with less staff may be.

——— Out of courtesy we reported this to the management and they have apologised and without us asking they gave us 10% discount but nevertheless we did not have a good experience.

And also if anyone looking for friend dried noodles - better to ask them for it than following the menu and its...
