HORRIBLE ALLERGY EXPERIENCE!
A group of 5 went in for dinner - my friend and I have allergies to gluten.
The menu clearly indicates which items are vegetarian, contain gluten etc. My friend and I closely read the labels and ordered a starter to share and 2 entrees which were all labeled as NOT containing gluten.
After consuming the appetizer, my friend and I became extremely ill. I asked the staff whether our appetizer contained gluten, despite being labelled as NOT.
After what felt like a bunch of back and forth out of the kitchen, the older gentleman, who I assume was the manager, told me that it did. He continue to tell me ‘it isn’t that much gluten’ and that the menu just made a mistake. Unbelievable.
The various staff were nice enough and were quite helpful for the rest of the evening. It wasn’t their fault and you could see they felt really bad.
The response of the manager was appalling. I told him they need to take all the menus currently on the tables and make the change - even in pen - to ensure the allergens are correctly labeled so they don’t poison someone else. He said he would but when we left, all the INCORRECT menus were still out. I mentioned it again and said you have a responsibility to ensure your menus are correct and he brushed me off saying he would do it.
The complete lack of action to ensure it doesn’t happen again to someone else is disgusting. You would have expected him to rush to tell his staff to find a pen and correct every menu.
They covered our bill, which was appreciated and we tipped the staff anyhow (they were quite nice) but the lack of action to fix a severe issue is so irresponsible and demonstrated no intention to ensure better customer safety...
Read moreMy recent visit to Guru Edinburgh was nothing short of a culinary revelation, particularly their Indian breakfast, which is truly one of a kind in the UK.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this restaurant prides itself on serving fresh, high-quality food. Every dish was prepared to perfection, and the quality was top-notch. The Chole and Aloo Curry, in particular, were subtly spiced and perfectly balanced, making them ideal for breakfast. Each bite transported us to the heart of India, a feeling that was only enhanced by their Karak Chai, which vividly reminded us of the bustling streets of India.
One of the standout moments of our meal was the Omlette Toastie. It was a comforting, nostalgic dish that tasted just like something made by a loving mother's hand at home. This simple yet flavorful dish was the perfect way to conclude our meal.
Not only was the food exceptional, but the prices were also very reasonable, making the experience all the more enjoyable. Guru Edinburgh has set a new standard for Indian breakfast in the UK, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Read moreI love Indian food this I have realised after being out of the country, so I thought of exploring one Indian restaurant in Edinburgh and the restaurant that I found is called as “The Guru” and it is just 16 mins bus ride from Edinburgh Waverley train station. The restaurant is basically a fine dinning place and restaurant servers were too cordial and sweet. The menu had a good selection of dishes, but we requested for Paneer tikka ( which was not in the menu) and it was really good. The chicken tikka was my favourite dish – it was so tender and juicy! I also really liked the naan platter which was soft and warm. Amazingly, this place was packed with Foreigners and few Indians could be seen.
I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who’s looking for good Indian food at reasonable prices in town. It would be a perfect place to take your family or friends out to eat if you’re celebrating an event like someone’s birthday or graduation. Overall, The Guru gets five stars from me – their customer service is phenomenal too! ⭐️In addition- BYOB ( Bring...
