The waiter did a great job at taking care of us. However he was clearly put under unnecessary pressure by the rude boss/manager.
I asked the manager for a WiFi password upon entering to access my voucher. He did not acknowledge my question and walked away without saying anything. The height of rudeness. I managed to get onto the WiFi eventually to get the discount voucher code.
He then made us feel uncomfortable by saying we did not book correctly despite us having the voucher code and us making a reservation.
The waiter apologised for the fuss created but I noticed during the meal that the manager pointed several times over to me when talking to our waiter. I don’t know if the manager had a good upbringing, but it is considered rude to point in general, and especially at people.
When leaving the premises, the waiter did a good job at making us feel warm and appreciated, but the manager did not acknowledge us when we were leaving, even though we walked right past his little podium.
Overall food was decent enough, ok price, but the presence of the negative manager ruined the experience to the point where I will never return. He has zero aptitude for a customer facing role, seemed unnecessarily agro towards us and the waiter tending to us. Relax, manager, what’s the problem? He created a situation out of absolutely nothing and created tension for us and the waiter. He created a horrible atmosphere.
Why? It’s just an Italian restaurant, chill out, it’s really not complicated.
Summary:
Walk in, shown our table Asked for WiFi password to access voucher, ignored completely. Told I booked our reservations wrong by the fussy manager via the polite charming waiter While eating, the obnoxious manager was pointing at me a lot, the waiter looked stressed out by him. Upon leaving, the manager did not acknowledge us or say thank you or goodbye.
Unfortunate. Thumbs up for the Waiter. Thumbs down for rude...

Nonna's Kitchen just up the road is one of the BEST Italian restaurants in Edinburgh. Go there instead, and stay away from Mia.
Bad Service Went with my friend for lunch in June. First, we got there 10 minutes before they stopped serving the lunch, and were told we could not order from the (much cheaper) Lunch Menu. The waiter was really rude and a made us feel uncomfortable. The service was slow, and we were only one of 2 table in there at the time.
Unsanitary When we didn't order a starter, we noticed he took away some of our cutlery and put it back in the "clean cutlery" pile-- this is unsanitary as many people touch their cutlery upon sitting down, and could contaminate it. They should really ADD cutlery to the table if people order starters instead, for health reasons. We were grossed out.
Bad, Overpriced Food We ordered mushroom risotto and linguini gamberoni. The risotto was so salty my friend couldn't even eat it. She dubbed it "salt with risotto". My linguini was overcooked in a boring, tasteless sauce with overbooked prawns. We were not expecting gourmet dining, but when you don't even enjoy your meal, it isn't a good sign. It was also extremely overpriced, especially for what it was.
Running Joke Not only will we not be returning, we often mention how bad that meal was every time...
Read moreBy far the best Italian place we have eaten in ages! We came across it by accident, driving down the motor way on route to our hotel, both hungry for food searching the internet.
When entering the restaurant we were already positively surprised by the rustic, homely atmosphere.
For starters, we had garlic bread with mozzarella, olives, antipasto vegetables and bresola & burrata. Every single dish was as flavoursome as the other. High-quality, pure ingredients and great flavours.
For main, we had pizzas. I myself had the rucola, Parma ham and Parmesan cheese pizza. My fiance had the Diavola with extra gorgonzola. Yet again high-quality ingredients. The perfect light and fluffy, yet cripsy pizza crust. And the toppings were added with the right balance of flavour.
To full to even think about dessert, we asked if it was an option to take the dessert to go for later on the evening. Ten minutes later we had two take away containers with tiramisu with chocolate sauce and fresh fruit on top.
Great value for money, wonderful staff, nice atmosphere.
The next time that we will visit Edinburgh (from the Netherlands) we will definetly return to Mia...
